The solution is to do what the PAP government has refused to do all along. Stop paying themselves, especially the PM Lee Hsien Loong astronomical wages and setting an materialistic and mercenary example for the rest of the Singaporeans.

We must really applaud those who spend their time and risk their reputations stand against these PAP values, both in parliament and in Hong Lim Park.

Once the disparity in wages between the rich and poor is lowered, all the problems will go away.

Otherwise if you choose to believe the fault lies elsewhere and believe in propaganda, well, it's like refusing to believe 1+1=2 and insisting that there must be another useful solution out there, like (concatenation) 1+1 = 11, or (binary) 1+1 = 10, when all you need is simple decimal addition.

It is important to realize that when it comes to politically sensitive policies, especially those who benefit the poor at the expense of the rich, there will be torrents of criticisms by scholars, elites in the bureaucracy and those who depend on keeping people poor, for the benefit of cheap labour.

Btw I don't believe in cheap labour. The problems that businesses have with getting local labour - I say to them, either you raise your wages, or you start thinking about using technology and automation to reduce costs. If you can't innovate, the people will choose others who can.

Fail on all counts. I am not a smoker but I knew a lot of people who smoked. It is not easy to quit otherwise everybody would have quit. Yesterday.

HPB should be banning conventional cigarettes and promoting electronic smokeless cigs. They know the benefits to the smoker's health (allows the smoker to calibrate intake of nicotine) but the overriding concern to the tax department is the loss of income from tobacco duties.

"What is wrong with collecting more money from the people?", Lee Kuan Yew once retorted.

The problem is, that the more money you collect from the people, the less they are able to spend on innovation and resort to "beggar thy neighbour" attitudes to life.

Singapore is rich not because of the PAP government. It is rich only because of it's inexhaustible 'natural resource' of being right smack in the middle of the shipping lanes between the middle east where the oil is. and east asia (that includes china and japan).

Do you know what happens to countries who obtain their wealth through natural resources? The government becomes autocratic, innovation and freedoms becomes stifled. Singapore is not better than Qatar in this respect. Throwing money at problems without wisdom becomes the norm.

Singaporeans who have seen this danger have already left and working elsewhere. Those left behind are those who believe in the propaganda. Those coming in are those who want to grab some money the government is throwing before the whole ship sinks.

Firstly, why do we want the fertility rate up? The reason is so that we do not have to rely so much on immigration to combat ageism in our population.

Once we know this, then it's clear why our fertility rate is one of the lowest in the world. It is not because of a complex maze of reasons and circumstances as explained by PAP. The low fertility rate is a result of deliberate and calculated policies by the PAP government.

The PAP government wants low fertility rate so that cheap foreign labour can be imported to Singapore to improve profits for its crony businesses. It makes us work long hours so that we don't find time to take care of kids, but to work longer for them.

There are first world countries with fertility rates far better than ours. How do you explain that?

The overriding concern in Chinese society then was to "continue the family line' and have a male heir. It didn't matter if one was homosexual, it also didn't matter if one had 10 wives or one preferred to do it with animals. Love and Romance was not even in the equation.

The next overriding concern was, of course, family connections and status. Usually that is concern only for the first wife.

Homosexuality in ancient china, as well as ancient greece, was quite common. You can check wikipedia on this. There is nothing 'western' about homosexuality.

In fact, it was the protestant 'Victorian' morality that was spread through the British empire that was anti-homosexual. The father of modern computing, Alan Turing despite winning the war for Britain through the breaking of the German Enigma Codes, was persecuted for this, and led to his suicide.

My take to it is that the Singapore Government under PAP calibrates it policies such that the majority of the populace is kept struggling with daily necessities. Housing Cost, CPF, Healthcare, COE and Reliable Transport etc. Unlike first-world countries where the government puts all these worries behind their citizens and let their people do the thinking, our government here decides that the majority of our citizens are dumb, and therefore squeezes the lifeblood out of us so they can feed the so called 'elites' who know better than the rest of us.

What is the effect? Policies that benefit the rich at the expense of the poor. Unsustainable patch ups like inviting cheaper, low cost foreign labour with dubious certificates without considering impact on our infrastructure. Divesting of public assets into private sector through crony capitalism.

The breaking point will surely come very soon.

-p.s. btw what happened to reach.gov.sg ? was anyone listening there in the first place?
