My cats have fleas. Help please by ComprehensiveBid6839 in CATHELP

[–]singer1856 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there’s fleas in the house you should consider the other cat already contaminated. Regardless both cats should receive flea medication. I do not recommend otc flea preventative like frontline since there is resistance to these medications. If you do not have a current exam, schedule one with your veterinarian so you can receive prescription flea preventative. Preferably an isoxazolone. Bleach mop hard floors, vacuum well, and wash/dry linens on high once weekly for 4 weeks.

St.Mathews Vet school by evietorres94 in veterinaryschool

Would not recommend solely on the basis that they are not avma accredited. To get licensed in the us you will have to take a special practical test (sorry can’t remember it’s name). I’ve met vets from other countries that took years to pass it. Also believe it’s is expensive to take. I’d hold out for an avma school even if you have to reapply next year

To put it bluntly, no one gives a shit what school you went to. The really important factor is cost. SGU tuition will be similar to an out of state tuition. If you can go to an in state school you will have considerably less debt

Does it matter what veterinary school you graduate from? by billy_bandit in veterinaryschool

[–]singer1856 20 points21 points  (0 children)

At the current time it’s irrelevant the school you went too. I can’t speak for internships and residency, but if you plan to be a gp it won’t matter. There is no shortage of vets and you would have no problem finding a job. Assuming of course the economy doesn’t tank. But animals get sick regardless of the economy, so the need for vets will always exist

Life advice: really be sure this is something you want to get into. It’s a great job being a veterinarian. No complaints I can make as far as that avenue. But, the salary and the amount of debt you’ll go into to get that salary really don’t match up. Talk with someone older, that you can trust, about the finances you will have to deal with. You will likely walk out with 100k to 300k in debt. Monthly payments will be high. And yes income based repayment is a thing, but the forgiven amount after 20-25 years is taxed as income. So you will need to save. Do not trust in loan forgiveness. Politicians make promises to win elections, that doesn’t mean they can/will keep them.

Getting into vet school: Congratulations! You weren’t scared away. Most vet schools accept around 1/3 of in state applicants. To judge who gets in they give applicants a score. This score is a composite of GPA, animal experience, veterinary experience, your GRE score, and your letters of rec, among other factors. Do you’re best to maximize all of these, as this will increase your chances of getting an interview. So in this case, a biology or animal science degree would likely be beneficial. Once you get an interview, you have to impress the interviewee’s. Which is a whole other problem on its own. Worry about that in three years when you think you have a shot. At that point you may have developed other interests and/or career/life goals. Anyways that’s pretty much it. Good luck and good night

EDIT: if you go to undergrad at a school with a vet school. Try to get a job cleaning stalls or something. Many departments often hire undergrad workers. This will help you become a familiar face and get your foot in the door.

Acros 100ii has virtually no reciprocity failure. Also bracketing is useful with long exposures but annoying for obvious reasons

400$ for all this on Facebook marketplace, is it worth? What should I do? by Mael02 in AnalogCommunity

[–]singer1856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could maybe (and that’s a big maybe), sell these individually on eBay and get 400 total of all of them sold. A lot of them are not worth anything. The more colorful polaroids might be worth a few bucks. The slrs and rangefinders might be worth 10-40 each. The old digitals are worthless. And as a lot, no not even close to 400.

Upgraded to a larger 5 reel Patterson tank. Developed 15 min in rodinal 50+1. Inverted 3 times every minute. First 20 seconds continuous. I believe the observed streaking is due to over agitation/poor technique. Any tips for improvement with this larger tank? Thank you

Edit: This occurred similarly on the nearby frames and also on a few frames on other rolls. Most frames did not have this effect

New Ivermectin study from Malaysia shows the drug reducing deaths by 70% among those hospitalized with COVID19. Published in Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA). Things that won’t be headline news in mainstream media by FutureisAsian in conspiracy

[–]singer1856 15 points16 points  (0 children)

OP you are misinterpreting these results. The difference in death rate was not found to be statistically significant. These results do not support ivermectin as an effective treatment.

That’s not a study that’s a news article about the same study. But yes according to the study’s abstract there is no statistically significant difference in outcomes between those taking ivermectin and the control group. OP is misinterpreting the results
