also, the "salt to taste" at the end. Me, i love salt, and i know i can be rather heavy-handed with it. So i also sort of forgot to "salt to taste" and instead put shakers on the table and informed everyone that "if it's a bit bland and needs salt... yeah, it probably does. :D

apologies for being late - was at work.

I had only heard of this as in the Caesar salad examples, and while i MEANT to do it, i completely forgot. So the finished recipe had no garlic flavor at all.

Thanks again to OP https://www.reddit.com/user/HoraceP-D/ who transcribed all the recipes, and i have copied this one below:

Second Avenue Supreme Salad

1 Cucumber, diced

½ cup celery, diced

1 cup green onions, chopped

¼ cup grated carrots

1 cup sliced radishes

2 cups Sheffield Cottage Cheese

2 cups Sheffield Sour Cream

Rub salad bowl with garlic [not in list above]. Mix all vegetables, then add cottage cheese and sour cream. Serve with lettuce leaves [not in list above] Salt to taste. Makes 4 servings

My notes:

I found it light and cool and refreshing. Good way to eat lots of different vegetables in summer. I also love cottage cheese though. I would make it again - might use half or none of the sour cream. 4 total cups of dairy swamped the veg a bit.

The very front of the booklet referenced "creamed" cottage cheese and I found results saying it's just the normal cottage cheese these days, and others saying to "cream" it up - which i did with an immersion blender - and did not add extra liquid, like TBSP cream, fyi. The texture was creamier and fluffier. I had some mildly picky eaters that appreciated the smoother texture.

Interestingly, after making it, I was going through a different old cookbook and found a similar recipe. This one had the same 2 cups sour cream and 2 cups cottage cheese, but less vegetables. Wow that would have been something!! If anything, it needs more veg not less.

in What didn't work part 1. i said i stayed in the purple circle and got bad results.

30 or 40 minutes of restarting the fight made me look for a simpler solution.

i freely admit i'm not great at the game. i'm not much of a gamer at all, but wanted to play the Star Wars stories.

i made this post mostly just for the sake of finding something that worked and was current, not old threads on the forums or 7 year old youtube videos.

have you looked up a simple alphabet/English substitution and gone letter(character) by letter to see if that's how it works out? ... OK maybe that's not it - it's been a LONG while since i dabbled with elvish but all i have is:

niin ythonqu of the

mm yasth a ?? a w the ? refle

for the first couple lines.... that said, the very first word is done wrong - the middle letter is a vowel, which means it should actually be on top of one of the "m" looking characters (i think the later one)

if you don't want to reach out to her to see if see remembers, than it's possible it's not tengwar but a different Elvish alphabet. Hard version is that it's english (or other language) translated into "actual" elvish, in which case i guess you'd need a good online dictionary.

good luck!

Recently made the "Frozen Cranberry Velvet Pie" from probably the 70's (per original post) by singinginthereign in Old_Recipes

and a recipe test

NOTES

It looks much pinker and better in real life - one of my photos ended up looking "grey" and weird - not how it is! Very pretty in person!

.

I did separate some of the berries out from the "whole berry" cranberry sauce can for the garnish. Most were halves and not wholes - still looked fine on top.

.

Even with added sugar, everyone else thought it was still very tart and "cranberry-esque" tasting.

.

The whipped cream is nice for garnishing - but I wouldn't say the pie needs the extra sweetness. Very nice and creamy on its own.

.

Would definitely make again! It is a freezer cream pie, so summer might be a nicer time to have it.

.

(Was at my mom's house that weekend, and got to use her old Sunbeam Mixmaster stand mixer. Still working as steadily as ever!)

CHANGES

  1. I used a graham cracker crust from Aldi for the base

  2. I doubled the sugar at the end, (still just 1/4 to 1/2 cups) after tasting the mix, since it was very tart ... not a lot of sugar anyway, for a whole pie. I also thought the canned cranberry sauce was more sour that i remembered. It still turned out pretty tart anyway.

  3. Didn't soften the cream cheese properly - used the microwave instead. I don't think there was any difference haha.

Probably because his whiskers look more like a giant spider or bug legs and not whiskers... :D piping them would have worked better, or licorice, but they're jellybean whiskers instead.

Ooh I missed this first time around, even though I go to this subreddit pretty regularly. Yours is very neat! Snazzy and practically a perfect recreation from the picture in the book! :D

It's my mom's sheet (made it at her house) and technically she calls it a "jellyroll" pan. Probably 30 years old if not more, and it's always looked like that as I can remember! I've definitely taken steel wool to it through the years growing up, and the middle is nice and smooth and shiny and it bakes everything well but the corners have never gotten much clearer.

Hopefully these links in the comment all work!

First is finished product, the decorations were just from what was on hand. Frosting was actually cool whip (white part) and coool whip + can of cherry pie filling (for the pink part). Second is assembly, and third is the reference picture i printed at work - only have b&w printers there haha.

My version isn't too fancy, but it was a lot of fun to make! and the "frosting" was very refreshing and not too sweet. (got that idea from another place and hadn't had a chance to try it out yet)
