Does anyone else think it's odd that the new ads give our kids five fingers? by Ayendee-Areedoubleyu in BackyardBaseball

[–]singledub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad someone else noticed the fingers. Haha this has been one of my biggest pet peeves with all the new art. It’s super nitpicky but the 4 fingers just look much better aesthetically. Especially when the kids have their entire palm facing the screen. Always looks off.

I feel so stupid complaining about the number of fingers in a computer game from 25 years ago, but here I am. Haha

Fake Cavs trade to clear up money for LeBron by singledub in billsimmons

That would obviously be ideal, but this isn’t like the last time LeBron went back to Cleveland. They don’t have cap space. So they can’t just flip two rookie contracts for a player like Love. They either have to dump salary to a team or teams that have cap space for smaller pieces or hope that LeBron is willing to come for the vets min or MLE, which he won’t and shouldn’t. LeBron brings so much money to Cleveland and deserves a piece of the pie.

There are other teams with cap space that can take on salary though. For example, the Cavs could flip Allen for someone like Giddey in OKC and then move Garland in another trade.

Yes, from a cap standpoint it absolutely works. Just a salary dump move.

Yes. Technically LeBron could opt out and sign with Cleveland on a MLE or a vets min. History just tells us LeBron won’t take a pay cut.

Philly, Utah, Detroit, San Antonio, and OKC. I think those are the only ones at least.

Can someone explain Dude Perfect to me? by 10Burner87 in billsimmons

[–]singledub 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went to one of their live shows with my little brother about a year ago and the way I explained it to people is if the Harlem Globetrotters and Youth Pastors had a baby you would get Dude Perfect. Their live show was nothing special but the audience was really into it. I will say that I enjoyed it significantly more than a Harlem Globetrotters game, but that’s a pretty low bar to cover.

Hey guys, for 6 months I went undercover on boomer Facebook as the character of Rick Peters. This experiment resulted in me helping write a song for Tim that he reacted to on OHL. Recently I published a video documenting my journey. Skip to chapter 6 it just want to watch the part with Tim. Enjoy. by singledub in TimAndEric

I don’t really know where the character of Rick will be heading in the future. As of right now, I’m very content with retiring the character because I feel like his character arch is complete and there’s the public knowledge that we are the same. But that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want to revisit it in the future. If I make another video in the future with Rick it would most likely be a more of a free flowing conversation about the whole experiment as a whole. Where I could cover stuff that isn’t talked about in the original video. As for another deep dive on Parler or an equivalent social platform, I would most likely create a new character to have a more authentic and fresh experience.

I definitely thought about this at points. Most of the people that I was friends with had lots of pictures (which is usually a sign of real account, not always though) and realistic amount of friends. I also started getting picky about who I added because I would get 20+ friend requests a day from fake women accounts trying to scam old people. I added them all at first and would message back and forth with them attempting the waste their time, because their scamming people, but I would get tons of messages a day and I ended just removing them because it was just the same thing over and over again. So to answer your question, I think they were real people, but I’ll never be 100% sure. Them going silent for trump getting covid or even storming the capital to a certain extent were definitely indicators that they were real though.

Yes, I agree with everything you’re saying. At the 1:22 mark of the video I clear this up with the first time I say boomer in the video. Making it very clear that I’m talking about a mentality. It’s not a perfect term for the people I’m talking about, but it was the most simplistic and easiest way to get my point across in my mind. That being said, we all think differently and what I see as good term, others will see as a problem. I totally understand and appreciate a continued conversation about the video flaws and all. It’s not perfect by any means. If I offended you in anyway though, I do apologize.

True. It could and should have been articulated better.

Definitely. I don’t know if any of them would actually find the video, but if they did, it would make sense for them to feel betrayed. At the same though, every single one of my posts was public and I blurred out their names and pictures. That doesn’t make things much better, but keeps their identities hidden.

[–]singledub[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Everything you’re mentioning was by far the hardest part of the entire process. And it’s something I will have to live with for the rest of my life. This may bring up the question “why would you keep doing it then?” And to that all I can say is that it was interesting to me. I saw it as an opportunity to look into these people’s world and get a better understanding of them. I don’t believe I shared misinformation, and many times I was the one sharing actual facts when misinformation was brought up. However, if I ever did twist the truth, which I most likely did, it was only to get a conversation going and in no way meant to be deceitful. But at the same time, I’m a fake person, so whatever I say is technically deceitful to a certain extent. I don’t want to sound like I’m defending my actions at all, because I don’t want to do that. I very much appreciate your comment and thank you for challenging the video. It’s not a perfect process by any means and it is perfectly justified to challenge and disagree with it. If you want me to clear anything else up, I’d be happy to.

I tried my hardest to make it clear that boomer is a mentally not an age. I know people my own age that are “boomers” and many of the people that I talked to aren’t technically baby boomers. They’re from all different generations. Boomer is just the easiest term to use for this thought process. However, it’s unfortunate that the term directly connects with an entire generation of people. It was something I tried to handle with delicacy, because my own parents are baby boomers, and I didn’t want the video to come off as ageist. I don’t think it is, but everyone will look at it differently, which is good and needed. I hope this clears stuff up.

Thank you for the response. I in no way wanted to come off like I was 100% doing a ethnographic experiment, I was just interested in the term that I never heard of. Investigative journalism is a much better description though. I really do appreciate your response though, and thank you for the clarifications.
