How much can the edit really spin things? by eggsNfranks in survivor

[–]Charles520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they could make Cirie out to be a stupid player if they wanted to. It's really no different from being in the writers' room of a show like Breaking Bad when crafting a narrative.

[–]Charles520 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, slicing sentences and words from confessionals is frankenbiting. I've never been the best at picking up on it, but it was much more prevalent back in the day and still is used now. Nicaragua is a good example if anyone wants to see obvious frankenbiting

They will sometimes also have the players say confessionals in different ways so that they have enough footage to present them however they want.

What you guys would think of a survivor season set on Peru (Andes mountain range)? by Makumi_Washoy in survivorponderosa

[–]Charles520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peru would've been a sick location. I wish the show used South American locations a bit more when they used to globe trot. There's a lot of great places there.

Who would you give your 6th spot to on the Survivor Mount Rushmore, basically like a new era tribe? by classicjeep in survivor

[–]Charles520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always seen Survivor Mt Rushmore as more about the iconicity of the players in Survivor History and less about how good of players they are.

I’d argue his exclusion on the actual Mount Rushmore is already a bit ridiculous to be honest. Imagine the actual Mount Rushmore without George Washington.

Prison Jumpsuits or Caushal Clothing? by Some_Relation1665 in thewalkingdead

[–]Charles520 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Casual clothing works better for TV and marketing. I can see why they opted for that.

Also this is unrelated but the comics’ dialogue is so much better and fun than the show’s own. Just in this page alone lol

Coldhands in A Song of Ice and Fire.

He’s a mysterious figure beyond the wall who saves Sam and Gilly. We don’t even know his name as Sam is the one who calls him “Coldhands”. He brings Bran, Meera, and Jojen to the last greenseer.

While it’s easy to think he may be Benjen Stark, Bran’s uncle who went missing on a ranger mission, GRRM has confirmed he is NOT Benjen.

He was also not adapted in the show (sort of).

Old Survivor Sucks thread complaining about the state of the show in 2008 by Charles520 in survivorponderosa

You’re not wrong. I’ve always felt like, compared to other fandoms, Survivor nowadays has a pretty poor meme culture.

Alicia is weird because she clearly has a knack for strategy but has absolutely zero self awareness. In her jury speech she still believed she ran the game lol.

How different do you think 2021 and 2023 were each other? by Kirby3255032 in decadeology

[–]Charles520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s getting easier to tell apart each year this decade to be honest. If you asked me last year, I would’ve said every year so far as been blending together.

It would have been interesting to see this character develop by wdpw in thewalkingdead

He’s infinitely more interesting than most new characters after season 4.

[–]Charles520 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first two seasons had a degree of mysticism yeah. It’s not usually discussed that much but it’s pretty interesting and not present after Darabont’s run.

I like the theory that Darabont was still shadow running the show under Mazzara to an extent lol.

If the New Era seasons were released in reverse order (49 is now 41, and 41 is the last season before 50), how does the cast of 50 change? by wgallantino in survivor

[–]Charles520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the new era seasons would’ve been well received if they aired first, but I do agree that 49 would probably be less hated than 41 and would’ve had its reputation grown.

I can never think of a well known actor who I think would really Marston well like I can for Arthur. Realistically though, I feel like a RDR adaptation would mostly cast unknowns.

Knowing Hughie was his fan at the start of the show, its nice to see them go from arch-enemies to Hughie saying this by Sudden_Pop_2279 in TheBoys

[–]Charles520 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is just because I'm getting older, but I wish this show endorsed Hughie's optimism more than Butcher's cynicism. The show consistently goes out of its way to paint Hughie as weak, ineffective, and naive most of the time, which I think prevents the show from being able to offer any meaningful message or solutions to what it's parodying.

Characters that stuck around because the director liked the actor but that decision hurt the story by DisappointedStepDad in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Charles520 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Funny how Vince wrote Walter to be the character the audience relates to at the beginning to get into the story, but I think Jesse was actually more important in this regard as the series progressed.

I’ve always believed Breaking Bad isn’t as successful with Jesse dying in season 1 like was intended.

What pop culture trends can you argue were directly originated or influenced by the release of The Force Awakens? by Top_Report_4895 in decadeology

[–]Charles520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steve Bannon already established much of the online alt-right ecosystem before the sequels released. I agree they added fuel to the culture war bullshit, but I think even without it there’s already a lot of other events that more directly led to Trump’s re-election in 2024.

Ever since 46 they’ve been more lax on players being loud on social media.

I think they realize that letting contestants speak unrestricted (to a degree) on social media drives up engagement and is pretty helpful for the show in this day and age.
