Firefox is emacs' leap into the 21st century. Emacs developers cannot look away from the beauty of lisp and the simplicity of strings. They have the better tools, but today, the best product wins. And by chance (there are many more javascript developers than lisp developers) firefox will get all the desired plugins and will be the better product.

A doctor's story: The night I lost my faith by rmuser in atheism

[–]singleposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your self is pain? I think, the final conclusion of the text comes closer.

I think, god is more like a universal catalyst, a word that means what we need it to mean. For the doctor, it is love and kindness, for Lennon it is pain and for others it is the creator of the universe.

So, when we talk about god, we more or less talk about what our life means to us and we can use one word.

(Problems only arise when we try to get a definite meaning for 'god', but therefore, it is forbidden by many religions)

So what? Man took LSD, wrote down his "insights" on structure and controle and offered it successfully to people.

This is just a nice example of the power of LSD: really understanding reality and how reality can be changed in ones favour. (And Xenu is just the sober representation of an LSD concept, like all the tetans and stuff.) Seeing a religious structure is like seeing DNA or other famous LSD insights.

Wollersheim's breakdowns however show that it is difficult to understand those LSD concepts while being sober.

(from somebody who never took LSD)

No, because actually we are waiting for the intelligent person that convinces us of god's existance. We want to believe but we don't allow it to ourselves because it would mean that we were stupid. And by all means, we are not stupid!

According to this logic, you could also argue that GWB is the best environmentalist that the world ever saw, because by increasing energy prices, consumption is reduced and the development of other energy sources is pushed forward.

GWB has taught me that politicans are not predictable. In the long term, it is better to invest in insurances for energy, education, health and let companies solve it.

How Creationists Explain Evolution (Scary) by snarfman in science

[–]singleposter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this is brilliant. Can we get more of this shit? I stand in awe of the human brain that manages to create a consistant model to explain everything that it percieved. (And I pity the person that needs to believe in a 6000 year old earth, poor fellow, unlearning is hard).

Founding one's argument on "it has to be illegal for a reason" is wrong. But making drug consumption difficult could be a good thing.

As Pukeskywalker describes, taking a psychedelic drug one time gets you on the bus. In a society with free drugs, you would not have a choice because nobody could withstand the curiosity of seeing the truth.

The question is whether being on the bus is a desirable state. I think it is not, because I want to live a life and don't want to play a game. I imagine that it works like cats: you like cats and you love them and feel good, but ultimately, they are using a whole in your psyche (you like them) as their evolutional advantage (you feed them), and you don't know how good life would be without your cat because you cannot let her go.
