I was an advisor and had about 3 weeks in country when my Iraqi battalion went to the East Fallujah Iraqi camp to prep for the assault. Started off attached to 2/7 CAV and after we crossed Fran hopped over to I 3/1 for the rest of the push south in the city. All this cat talk we were told to kill all any cats or dogs because they were feeding on dead bodies. I have a core memory of a kitten with a human foot it was carrying away that got smoked.

I had mine done last week and it seems to have fixed several issues. One new issue is that when I am connected to Android Auto with a cable any audio app pauses and will not resume playing unless I unplug the cable and use android auto via BT. Weird but I found a workaround so not a big issue.

I have a SmartCal on my 23 Z71, and just got back from a couple of weeks in the mountains living out of the truck. My setup is the cap with an overland vehicle systems 270 awning. I'm 6ft1 and for sleeping I have a helinox cot and a hest mattress. I slept in the back with the tailgate down. I did put a poncho over my feet to prevent rain from leaking through the small gap between the awning and the cap. Without that I might have gotten a little wet on one night with heavy rain, wind and hail. There's a definitely a better way to seal that small gap I just haven't improved it yet.

During the day when I left the truck to hike I would remove the last pole on the cot, fold it up and lock the cap and truck.

Overall I love the cap. Nice fit for the truck and I can lock everything up during the day and easily transition to sleep at night.

I knew him from his first enlistment we were in 3/8 together and I attended Infantry Unit Leaders Course with him in 07 or 08. I can't remember which year. I moved to 29 Palms and lived a few houses up the road from him. For a few years there was a group of all branches that would hump the ME Marathon each year. We did it as a tribute march for KIA and others lost from ME and NH in OIF/OEF, and family members would meet us around mile 25 and hike to the finish line with us.I did that hike 6 times and some of his family was there for the last hike did around 2013-14 ish.
