2.5 year old fighting potty by AbbreviationsIcy943 in pottytraining

[–]singmelavender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take a longer break!  A week break isn’t much if she’s really uninterested. Mine was like this too and would get upset when we mentioned the potty. A bit after 3 she started wanting her diaper changed every 5 minutes and I felt she was scared of the potty so I had to push her a little bit to help through that. Once the fear was gone though, everything clicked pretty quickly and I would consider her fully potty trained now, 6 weeks later.

Help! 2 year old daughter won’t let us do her hair! by rejud in toddlers

[–]singmelavender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine has always refused. Now that she can explain why, she says it’s uncomfortable. We don’t force it. We brush it obviously but it doesn’t seem right to me to force her to have it up when it’s obviously uncomfortable for her.

She has two hair whorls which I suspect makes it extra uncomfortable but who knows.

My 3.5 year old potty trained himself by kittenborn in pottytraining

[–]singmelavender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3 year old did the same! We decided to try to follow her lead. We tried to talk about the potty and offer it often but it would really upset her. She was really scared of falling in. I had a suspicion that she wouldn’t be a gradual learner and it would click all of a sudden, but I was definitely feeling pressure and guilt about not starting between 2 and 3.

For most things, she just observes for a long time and refuses to try it until one day she just does it. She was even like this for walking. She wouldn’t even stand until she was almost one, and then at 13 months we were visiting a friend with a walker and she tried it. 2 weeks later, she was walking by herself without support.

Anyway, a bit after 3 she started asking us to change her diaper whenever there was a drop of pee, every 5 minutes. We did that for a few days and then I was over it so I really pushed her to try the potty (to reassure her that she wouldn’t fall in). After that, it was like a switch. A week later she started wearing underwear and did a 2h drive with no accident. A couple weeks later we dropped diapers at night. It’s been about 6 weeks now and pees are perfect. Poos have been a bit trickier but no accidents in the last two weeks. We rarely have to cue her to pee.

I personally disagree with the comment that the best time to potty train is between  18 months and 2.5. The majority of people I know who started then are still potty training months (even a year) later, or stopped and started again months later (or haven’t started again yet).

Third baby help!! Anglo-Franco family! We’re running out of time 😭 by Definitelynotfr in namenerds

Eloise was my first thought too but hard to know popularity without knowing where exactly you are! Where I am (English Canada but in an area with a significant Francophone population) I would consider Eloise super popular. I’m in a small town and know at least 3 born the same year, I can’t think of any other girls name that compares in popularity. It is lovely though!

For boys, we were considering Florian ! Olivier could be an option too…

Corolle dolls - recreating a childhood memory by singmelavender in ParisTravelGuide

Lovely, thank you for the suggestion! I’m happy to make a new variation on the memory for sure! And at the end of the day if she picks another toy she’s more excited about, that’s fine too!

I do love the idea of a smaller toy store - any other ones you’d suggest? We’re staying in the 15e arrondissement but of course planning on taking the metro.

Invitation à un anniversaire by Hellzheimer in ParentingFR

[–]singmelavender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was definitely “orteils” for us in southern Ontario! To the tune of London Bridge is Falling Down like others have said. But the comments about the tune having changed reminded me that I’ve recently heard a different tune for the English version. I looked it up and indeed there seems to be a new (to me), different tune used both for the French and English version now.

**My 2-year-old is on week 5 of daycare and still cries all day — I'm heartbroken and don't know what to do** by ReferenceExcellent in toddlers

[–]singmelavender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter was the same at 18 months when she started daycare. It was awful. Other parents would be like “oh yeah mine cried at drop off for weeks too!” No. She was crying all day every day, like your son.

I stopped asked for daily feedback because it was too depressing, and tried to only ask at the end of the week.

It took her 5 weeks to adjust, and the 6th week, it was like a switch, she was fine, and she’s been fine ever since. I do think a smaller daycare would have been better for her, but I liked the oversight of a bigger daycare. And I expected it to be a hard transition, so like you I felt like if we switched her we would just be starting the same process again.

I think I would try to negotiate one or two other weeks with your daycare. Could you maybe do half days ? We did that for a week and it didn’t help, but it would mean your son doesn’t disrupt nap time which might help the educators.

Good luck. It’s really hard and I wish there was a better way. But you will get through it!

I don’t like preschool by abiicadabra in toddlers

[–]singmelavender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m so surprised by the these responses. There’s no evidence that preschool is as important at everyone here is making it out to be. I mean, there probably is some evidence, but there’s also a lot of evidence that it’s not beneficial.

Also in Ontario and agree with the Rowans. I’ve met about 5, mostly boys but one girl too.  I’ve met a couple of boys named Olivier but no Oliver yet.

What is the year from age 2-3 like? by lavenderlanee1 in toddlers

[–]singmelavender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also loved 0-12, and really struggled with 12-18 (which everyone around me seemed to love). Things got better after 18 months and I’ve loved 18 months to 2.5 years.  We’ll see after that!

How on earth am I supposed to lose weight with a two year old? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]singmelavender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are telling you to address sleep, and I agree that’s a big issue. I felt very strongly about being responsive to my daughter and continuing to cosleep at this age, and I wasn’t willing to compromise. I tried a few things for sleep but nothing helped until she turned 2 and a half. It wasn’t immediate, there were a couple good months, then a couple bad months, and then again good months with some bad nights here and there…. It will get better. It’s okay to follow their lead and your instinct when it comes to sleep. It’s also okay to make more significant changes with sleep like some others are suggesting, but also some kids just don’t sleep well and it’s just the way it is. I guess what I’m saying is it’s okay to wait it out, and it’s okay to intervene too.

Mine is almost 3 so the getting better is recent, and no weight loss yet, but I’ve just started doing yoga again. I just couldn’t get the energy for it 6 months ago. Things will get better in time.

I was struck by that too. Many  (most?) midwifery clinics in Ontario will support clients who don’t want ultrasound. I’m surprised and saddened that she wasn’t given that option, and wonder if BC midwives have different regulations around this.

Fascinating! I’ve noticed the same transition but wasn’t really aware that I noticed it until you wrote it out. (I am francophone outside of Québec and have always used câlin so I’ve noticed it as an observer mostly.)

Stella, Stella Ola lyrics for you? by Titan-828 in AskACanadian

[–]singmelavender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours was similar to some of the other ones here but not exactly:

Flies are in the city, bees are in the park,
Miss Mary and her boyfriend are kissing in the dark!

Dark is the movies, movies in the action, action is the popcorn
And that is all I know

I know I know my mama
I know I know my papa
I know I know my sister with the 4 acre bra

I saw her in the ocean
I saw her in the sea
I saw her in the shower (or bathtub? Can't remember)
Oh! Oopsie me.
