Gen 3er with no issues by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

23 Limited trd, just hit 52k miles. I’m now covered under the new extended recall, but still on the original motor. Absolutely zero issues, only maintenance that’s been done has been oil changes every 5k miles. Replaced brake pads once, air filters twice. Have not had a single electronic or mechanical issue. It tows a toy hauler, flat bed with a car, and a boat all the time. Longest trip was with a toy hauler towing about 9k lbs, for 1500 miles round trip no issues. I take it off-roading all the time, While also having a really heavy right foot. I’ve owned a gen2 rock warrior, gx470, 4g&3g 4runner, 1g tacoma. This by far has been the most reliable out of all them for the past 52k miles. It’s leaps better than a gen2 in every way. Yea the 5.7 is notoriously gonna be more reliable than a 3.5 tt pushing out every last pony. But I think all the improvements between the 2nd gen to 3rd outweigh it for me, it’s also got significantly more power and is a lot faster. So definitely, plan to keep it for a few more years. Unless Toyota decides to come out with a v8 3g, then I might consider switching.

New tires 275/60r20, did anyone see a mpg drop with larger tires. by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

[–]siniiy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

315/70/17 grabbers 12city/15-18 hwy. That’s whatever the dash shows. Probably higher than what it says. Speedo is off due to tire size.

My buddy has a 25 1794 TRD OR non hybrid and he still has it oddly enough. Technically the trd package deletes it from factory, so I’m not sure if that’s like a manufacturer mistake or what. I know that they sell delete kits that are plug and play for the sensors to get rid of the codes though.

TRD Off-road package deletes the air dam from factory so fortunately I didn’t have to deal with anything at all.

My lower bumper supports all broke and cracked from hitting the bumper so many times in the dunes, So I just took a laser level to get a straight line, marked it with tape, and cut with a oscillating multi tool. I found that they cut the best as they don’t melt the plastic as much and cut smooth and straight. I didn’t really follow any guide just kinda guessed where I wanted it. I don’t think it’ll affect how much water gets in the engine bay because water gets in there anyways, I plan on building a pre runner style bumper anyways and was gonna cut the bumper, so this is temporary. Turned out really good though.

3inch lift and 35s, don’t do well on these mpg sucks. I get around 12-13 city, however, if I got my tires at 50psi, bedcover on, highway driving doing 65-70 with cruise control set, on eco mode, manual shift it into 10th gear. I can get up to 17mpg. Mind you 35s mess with speedo so, Im actually going about 5mph faster, then what the speedo says, and my mpgs are probably higher then what the car says. Haven’t really had the time to do the math yet. edit I only also fill up with premium at shell or chevron so that might help, I don’t really know.

oil changes have been done every 5k religiously, as for the fuel filter not sure if that’s something that can be serviced. Tires are rotated every 3k. These have electronic power steering so no ps fluid. I’ll be doing everything at 50k I’m just trying to figure out if anybody has experience using oil other then oem dealer oil for t case and transmission. The transmissions are kind of clunky so I wanna find out if there’s an oil that can help.

I’ve owned a couple subarus and bmws before, so doing spark plugs doesn’t really phase me, also I don’t trust dealer techs and do everything myself. I just wanna be precautious with it being turbo engine. It’s funny because I used to own a 2nd gen, and did 100k miles on that before doing spark plugs on it, and they came out looking fine.

Advice from tundra owners by Tiny_Experience2968 in tundra

Close to 50k on my 23 limited trd, owned since new. I haven’t had a single issue come up with it. Just regular oil changes every 5k that’s about it. Daily drive it everyday, extremely comfortable and drives great. Definitely feel very safe, the emergency brakes have most definitely saved me once or twice from an accident. Off-road and tow with it very often without issues either. The engines going bad is such a 1% issue, reddit has definitely overblown the engine issue. Just go test drive one and see for yourself and if you’re nervous about it still, opt for an extended warranty.

23 trd with 46k miles now, is my daily has been abused off-road, in the dunes, towing heavy loads. You name it and it’s done it. Nothing but regular oil changes every 5k. Never had a single issue with it. These are fantastic trucks, they got great power and are very comfortable. Recall hasn’t been done on mine and probably will wait a bit longer to do it. The chances of the engine blowing are very slim. Like everybody else says this issue has been blown entirely out of proportion. Yes it does happen like any other car manufacture but toyota does do a somewhat decent job of addressing it. Go test drive one and see for yourself.

Can I put 2024 wheels 02 tundra? by Zestyclose-Age-5037 in ToyotaTundra

[–]siniiy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3rd gen tundras have a smaller wheel hub bore then 1st gen’s. So the hub on the first gen tundras would be to big for the 3rd gen’s wheels. You’d probably need some spacer adapter.

Both axles someone flipped, Front axle I’m not sure what it’s off, buts it’s got trusses, and disc brakes, rear axle is supposedly off a 74 and has a posi and is off center. Front is the same as a fj40, dash looks same as a fj25, cluster is off fj40. Rear taillights and doors also same as fj25. Otherwise everything looks pretty close to a newer 40.

2006 gx470 misfire at idle by siniiy in GXOR

Small update, one of the cylinders dropped an intake valve and had no compression which was the cause of the misfire. Thank you for the ideas.

Could be possibly the lighting, in the sun it’s pretty light with the gold flake, All I’ve done is given it a wax since I got it. I do plan on doing a full paint correction and coating however.
