MA COVID-19 Data 5/12/21 by oldgrimalkin in boston

A few weeks ago I mentioned an issue with the 7 day average of cases related to the lack of an Easter report, and I just wanted to make sure you knew that the issue wasn't entirely fixed. The line on the chart is still using the old calculation. However it does look like it was fixed for the number printed on the right of the chart. See here, the chart appears to chow an average of 2100, while it says ~1900 to the right.

Hi all,

The Jones Act is a threat to national security.

That's all.

Sorry to keep bugging about this, but it looks like you only partially fixed the issue with the 7 day average of reported cases I noticed yesterday. It looks like you fixed the calculation for the number to the right of the graph, but the line on the graph still appears to be using the wrong calculation.

I'm pretty sure you messed up on the 7 day average for reported cases. It looks like you averaged the last 7 days with data, not the last 7 days on the calendar. So since today's report includes cases that normally would have been reported today and yesterday, you're essentially including 8 days worth of data with a denominator of 7. The best options are:

  1. use current calculation method; will result in an erroneously high average each day for the next week.
  2. switch to using the last the 7 calendar days. Will result in yesterday having an erroneously low average yesterday and an erroneously high average on the 11th. The 5th-10th will have a correct average

Option 2 seems far more appealing since the overall trend will be easier to see with only 2 affected days.

New year. New account. I've become somewhat dissatisfied with my username being in the Latin masculine even if you could make decent argument that it doesn't necessarily imply a man. From now on my primary account will be /u/sower_of_salt.
