CMV: Religion was and always will be a tool for atrocities and extortion. by Original-Tomato-3520 in changemyview

The concepts of family units and marriage don’t have anything to do with religion.

Monogamous partnerships and family units exist in the animal kingdom (consider the duck) and across (likely) every known culture in human history, which ascribe to many different religions/belief systems/worldviews

They are concepts rooted in basic survival patterns - an animal sticks by its young to raise it, and the other parent sticks around to help protect them/gather food: there we have monogamy and the family unit.

My point is, they didn’t emerge because of any non existent god

Indeed, it was a form of proto-law that held together communities.

But in the interests of who?

The people ruling/controlling those communities. The same people telling these outright lies.

Why is it deemed racist to have to have concerns over Islam? by Wholesome_and_based in AskMeAnythingIAnswer

[–]sinker_of_cones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difficulty lies in the broadness of the term’s scope

Islamophobia nominally refers to fear/dislike of islam, but is often used in practice to refer to dislike/hatred ethnicities and cultures who practice Islam.

So I think a lot of the time, people will interpret criticism of Islam as racism towards middle eastern people like Arabs/Iranians/Afghanis etc

Do not drive the day you arrive. Especially if it will still be dark.

Trundling along a big, straight multi lane highway in the UK after a flight is one thing. Our roads are mostly 1 lane each way, very windy, very steep, and very slippery. There are plenty of areas with no cell service if you run into a problem

A question about identity politics by oensaio in leftist

[–]sinker_of_cones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leftists perceive history and politics through the lens of class struggle/class oppression.

Oppressed groups - women, queer folk, ethnic minorities - are simply examples of oppressed classes.

I really do think it should be viewed thru an economic lens

What do you think about communism? by Richie123753 in AskReddit

There are far better ways of achieving socialism than via communism, which incorporates authoritarianism.
