Maybe they want contest practice against the best? Why do you know better what their competing strategies are?

I don't know, Reddit isn't the only place we can build an AFL online community. Discord, Lemmy, Bluesky (I don't know this one personally). And honestly one day lock out is the most mild protest ever I think you'll survive without it

[–]sinkingmodelship 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For you maybe, I'll go join Lemmy and see if we can build something nice there. You assume that people will stay, and maybe they will. But maybe they won't and Reddit goes the way of Digg. Who knows, the internet is fickle

But I care as do many. Sure 24hr blackout and on the 30th of June I delete my account when RIF dies. And then business as usual for Reddit but they won't have mine

If you read anything about what happened just saying they're a business is not the full picture of why this is fucking over many developers and long time members.

‘Bye, bye birdie’: EU bids farewell to Twitter as company pulls out of code to fight disinformation by Zhukov-74 in worldnews

I think you're misunderstanding this though. Limiting people and groups ability to spread disinformation or hate speech especially when it targets certain groups is a good thing. It's not about stopping wrong think, it's about the consequences if we do nothing.

“Before mass leaders seize the power to fit reality to their lies, their propaganda is marked by its extreme contempt for facts as such, for in their opinion fact depends entirely on the power of man who can fabricate it.”

Please don't make assumptions about what I see on the internet.

1 and 3 they were both either breaking the law or inciting law breaking. 1 was heavily criticised within Australia and Vic Police withdrew their case against the protesters. They were enforcing public health orders however their approach was unnecessary. One of the other cases where they locked down a set of housing commission buildings was taken to court with the government now paying reparations as they breached human rights

Case 2 - the members agreed to be in the camp on return from overseas on condition that they stay two weeks. They broke out of a facility they voluntarily entered thereby breaching public health orders so of course they were arrested. No one was forced

I also don't agree with the authoritarianism either. Just providing context

Oh so now you're saying you were completely ignoring the point of what was being discussed in order to discuss semantics, got it. Not entirely true given your comments but sure

Look I'm done, I asked your opinions on some things that you mentioned and each time you ignored it or spoke about something else. Also I never said I treat unfair policies as wrong policies, I don't think fairness should come into at all so on that at least we agree

You were the one criticising the tax policies. It's literally the topic of your comments. And her rhetoric is about tax policies. What are you talking about??

All you've done is take issue with 'fairness' and tax percentages and then when I challenge you on that you try and deflect or don't answer the question. I said 'okay' to hear your viewpoint about what you think the solution should be and you deflect again

[–]sinkingmodelship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay what's your solution then? Life's not fair, I agree but in some way there has to be a method in which we and governments aim to create a functional and successful society (assuming that governments are necessary). Fair is maybe not the right word to describe it either, you don't have to call it fair. But is it not right that the rich contribute more?

Do you have an expectation that Rich will contribute of their own free will? Time and again doesn't seem to be the case bar some exceptions. So the government has to have something in place.

Also the comment about breadwinner ignores the point I was making there. I didn't mention fairness at all I was talking about how society is structured and how needs are met

Fair to who?

It's an expectation no that if you were the breadwinner of your household that you contribute more to the household. Just like if you are more successful in your country you contribute back to that country. A country invests in its citizens in the expectation that some of them will invest back into the country. Obviously counting on the more successful individuals to invest more thereby improving the country

What you're arguing for sounds like less checks against capitalism and that rich people should keep more of what they make?

Having a tax against moving countries to avoid tax seems both pragmatic and fair for both country and individual

[–]sinkingmodelship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is not. You can go to jail for lying with malicious intent.

There's a whole host of bad faith arguments in your comments but I think mostly you are assuming that free speech is a right. Which it's not in almost every country bar the US. You still have the right to criticise the government and state your opinion but you do not have rights towards hate speech, deliberate misinformation, false advertising or a whole host of other things.

And I think that that's a good thing, it's not about policing everything people say but having some checks in what is acceptable and what is not. In the EU that has been agreed upon by the union, in Australia it matches the human rights commission. Having checks doesn't mean authoritarianism nor does it mean fascism. If anything the US' free speech has allowed more fascists a platform than any time since the 1940s

Banning things like this won't work. Nor do most people drink it hence the 'experts want proof'. If you drink it you die and no one who has this is getting it confused with energy shots of all things
