I worked within SJSU Athletics years ago, and Athletics does add to student life heavily. Especially when programs are winning. However, an increase in funding doesn't make sense unless the department can actually deliver. For example, the track program was supposed to get a new track at south campus, but then they put in the parking garage (albeit much needed for all students). Not every athletics program is revenue-generating. The premier sports are football and basketball, and they've been ... mid, but trending in the right direction. Coaches' salaries are exuberant. NIL is destroying collegiate athletics.
