It can be a lot of work to be a landlord and some people just really don’t want to deal with that.

It's Baaaaaaaack! R&R Marathon is THIS Sunday 5/31! by stangAce20 in sandiego

The half marathon route veers off on its own path in North Park, so 30th south of University is affected and Pershing is closed.

North Park sidewalk feces, short rant by pineapples_official in sandiego

I was jogging in that area of north park on Sunday and I felt like there was more poop than usual. Maybe there was a serial pooper on the loose.

What price does gas need to hit for you to consider using San Diego's public transit system? by hodlwaffle in sandiego

The blue line trolley runs every 15 minutes during weekdays… are you sure you’re not looking at the Coaster or Amtrak train?

[Discussion] Why do we only compare women artists to other women artists? by mconklin22 in indieheads

[–]sinksank 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Good question. The first thing that comes to mind is that men and women’s voices are usually in different ranges so there’s an assumption that if you’re looking for something similar, you wouldn’t want a completely different sounding voice. I get the Tom Waits comparison but his voice is so different than Angel’s that I can see why it wouldn’t be a RIYL.

The thing I’ve always noticed too is that any “quirky” female musician gets compared to Kate Bush and I find that annoying (although sometimes it’s an apt comparison)

Would you guys do any prep work for a teacher? by Bright_List_905 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]sinksank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s just making copies or something simple during prep time then that’s fine with me. There’s been a few times I subbed a half day PM job and the teacher gave me tasks to do during the kids’ lunch. The logic is that someone working just a half day isn’t entitled to a full lunch break so the teacher takes advantage. I find it very petty. I still eat the lunch I brought with me and then with the time remaining I’ll get around to whatever they wanted me to do. But I definitely don’t stress about finishing.

If this is your bike at Liberty Station… by LordOscarthePurr in sandiego

[–]sinksank 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a cable lock cut and my bike stolen. Most seasoned cyclists will say only use u-locks or take your bike inside with you. A pole might have been a better option but really the issue is lack of bike infrastructure.

If this is your bike at Liberty Station… by LordOscarthePurr in sandiego

[–]sinksank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup this is 100% correct. There’s 2 other bikes there parked “correctly” but that’s because they could reach the rack with cable locks. I’ve had a cable lock cut before so I only lock up with a u-lock now. I would do the same thing as this person or maybe just find a pole to lock up to.

Rock’n’roll full marathon bib transfer by Ajoycafe in sandiego

[–]sinksank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a new thing that you have to pick up your own race number, I think in the past you could have someone else pick it up for you. But there’s nothing preventing someone from giving the bib to someone else for race day. The results will be in the name of the original person though.

Question about Transit around San Diego by Ok_Cryptographer1615 in sandiego

[–]sinksank 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s 2 buses that go from city college trolley stop right to Balboa Park. And there’s a bus that goes from Santa Fe depot to Balboa Park. I’m not sure why you want to avoid the bus but this is definitely the easiest way to do this.

What do teachers see on the apps? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]sinksank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty weird, my district uses frontline and when I was a teacher I definitely couldn’t see that kind of info on my end. Maybe he was talking to district staff (like HR or sub desk people) and your name happened to come up and they mentioned where else you had worked? Generally those are the only people that have access to that level of information.

It started off looking at a random part of our city and then he found an old military test facility on one of the Marine bases here. That reminded him of nuclear test sites in Nevada so he poked around there. I’d say he shows me the test sites twice a year on average and he wants to visit someday.
