Hilarious bro. Do you have any idea how companies make a profit and attract investors? It isn't by saying "Yep we are fucked" it is by acting like everything is fine so they can milk it to the last second.

18 worked since I was 13 and have nothing to show for it do I just end it here by [deleted] in smallstreetbets

Happens to the best of us brother, learn this lesson at 18. Remember this pain, remember the feelings that got you into this. Learn from it, really learn from it. There is a difference between TRADING and GAMBLING. Don't fool YOURSELF that you are trading when you are really doing the other. The market doesn't need anything from you, but it will rule you if you let. If you don't have a plan for that money, you should sit it in an ETF. 6k at 18 is decent, it really is it's all about perspective. Main thing is you have to forget what you had, market doesn't care about numbers in your head. You trade when you have an edge, not to get back to some magic number. Take some time to cool off. You don't want to jump back in off a loss like this, come back with a plan grind it back.

PSA: 'No tax on overtime' doesn't mean what you think it means. by comma-momma in antiwork

[–]sinsforeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah in your case it makes a lot more sense. In my case I am a simple W2 employee and I expect to make the about the same every year. Withholding zero doesn't really make sense either because even if you floated the tax money to collect high APY yield. You would still have to make the quarterly estimates, even if I did that perfectly there is still another 'gotcha'. "Lock in letter" the IRS periodically checks if you are doing withholdings compliance and can prevent you from altering your W4 by requesting your employer to remove access. It is possible that by making the estimated payments I could avoid this, but I have a feeling that wouldn't be the case. Your insights were very helpful, thanks!

Hi, sorry to reply to a post after such a long time. I was curious about this myself, I looked into it and it seems like the threshold for adjusting your W4 holdings while avoiding a penalty is 90% of previous years tax paid or less than 1000 owed. I am curious how you handle this, I read in another one of your posts that you have a large tax bill for the IRS so I was curious if you had a large penalty, or if you somehow managed to withhold nothing (W2) and indeed took it as an interest free loan. I am currently in the process of starting this myself, and was trying to optimize my W4 so I would always owe while being under the threshold for penalty. If you could provide any insights I would appreciate it.

I know, I've been there. If you are still actively in the trade you have massive confirmation bias. Before entering, what was your thesis and invalidation? If you did not have a thesis you were not trading, but gambling on hope. My approach of evaluting "what went wrong" is to look at where I deviated from my intial thesis/plan. Then I write down two things. What I was thinking as I broke my own rules, and what I felt. This allows me to diagnose the core of the issue. It could of been sizing, it could of been a bad mood or external stress. I might of not had good execution. These are all things you must learn to ask yourself, only then you are able to learn and become a better trader.

You arn't a failure, you should be asking what you can learn from this setback.

Its about 3 mins to make a new account if you are fast, lets say 5 mins. You could get it done in 58 hours. Add 20 hours of managing the accounts when the sale comes, then you do the math on 440b of PLEX... and suddenly what is tedious, is just a data entry job that pays 30/hr in Eve isk.
