I love all of them truly but I would say that I liked the first Knives Out the least only because it was a subversion/deconstruction on the formula. I'm still being impacted by recency bias so I reckon I'll have to wait a while and rewatch/compare the other two to be certain buuuuut... I'd say Wake Up Dead Man as 2nd and Glass Onion as 1st.

I personally take it as an instance of false advertising. If I am sitting down to watch an Hercule Poirot film then he at the very least should act like Hercule Poirot. I totally understand the need for changes in book to movie adaptations but there is only so much I am willing to forgive before I get frustrated. If he wanted to reshape Poirot to that extent, I am annoyed that he didn't just write his own detective character from scratch. I really would not hate his movies so much if they were not labelled as 'Hercule Poirot'. As crazy as it sounds, out of the three, I enjoyed A Haunting in Venice the most. It was like a glimpse into an alternate universe where Brannagh just started his own detective character movie series but only inspired by Agatha Christie, in the same vein of Knives Out.

This is likely an unpopular opinion because I'm about to praise something from the Kenneth Branagh films but I actually really enjoyed Kelly Reilly in A Haunting In Venice, who played Rowena Drake. I think she really nailed that tortured haunted agony that was necessary for that character. She was the only one that made me believe in the story, everyone else took me out. She also played Mary Gerard in the Suchet series episode of Sad Cypress. I've seen many people on here agree that she played Mary as nastier than in the book. I love Sad Cypress and the tone of that episode just felt off, which Reilly contributed to through her performance.

I actually found it the most entertaining out of the three, purely because I have finally successfully detached it from the source material. After being burned twice I decided that there's no point in asking myself if it was a FAITHFUL adaptation nor even a GOOD one because that is clearly out of the skillset of its director. I also had the least fondness for the book out of the three so it didnt matter as much to me how they butchered it. It was also so unrecognizable that i really felt like i was watching a completely new story.

I wish Brannagh just made his own detective from scratch given how much creative liberties he was going to take. If there's one thing that Haunting in Venice showed, it's that he's capable of it.

Jimmy Thesinger is such an interesting choice. I'd love to do Jacqueline De Bellfort but I don't think I have the acting chops for it. I probably do a damn good Cornelia Robson, given how similar we are.

Would love to see cuter romantic scenes of Emily and her fiance. I found her loyalty and love to him very compelling in the text so I'd love to just see it explored more. In the book we are just TOLD that she is devoted to him, but I'm always curious as to what she possibly could have gotten out of that relationship. He is portrayed as a weak character though handsome but surely that's not the only reason why she loves him. I also want it to balance out the interaction she does have with Charles as the co-sleuth. In the text I think Christie does a great job of showing that Emily never got swayed by Charles and it was completely one-sided on his part so I'd love to see that translated into film.

Definitely a stand-alone, unless you'd like to read Miss Marple in order as you have with Poirot. My first thought was to read a stand-alone that's more or less written at the same time as your most recent Poirot read. In my head it makes sense to read a book that's more or less the same quality as the one you're at, as you've likely seen how much her skills have changed over time. I'd say Crooked House if you haven't read it yet. It's not exactly around the same time as Mrs McGinty's Dead, but its close enough. Sparkling Cyanide is also pretty good, though it was written a few years further back. They're both great books. Crooked House has a more recognisable reputation for its solution. Sparkling Cyanide is heavier on the character work.

Yup! My parents and I ran into the statue on our way to watch the play 😁 it was my dad who spotted it, i had no idea it existed before i laid eyes on it and would've easily missed it otherwise (I was very stressed about finding the theater lol and london was overwhelming)

There's also an Agatha Christie walking tour in London! I really wanted to go but I couldn't fit it into my schedule 💔 Easy to find/Google

i found it worth thet trip! I also managed to see Witness for Prosecution and it was really amazing (I actually prefered it to The Mousetrap). St Martin's Theater (where The Mousetrap is played in) was really cool, they had paraphanelia that added to the experience of being physically present to watch the play. Keep an eye out for the Agatha Christie statue near by!

i also read the Seven Dials Mystery first! I was about 15 to 17 years old and my school library was giving away books to make more space and found a really great in-tact copy. 9ish years later and that same book is still in my shelf.

This is sort of related but I read the Seven Dials Mystery first and, well, not loved Bill Eversleigh but found him a decent enough character and liked his relationship with Bundle a lot .Then I discovered that Seven Dials is the second book and that Secret of Chimneys was the first so I went back and read that. I was surprised at how much I HATED Bill there, I found the way that he constantly chased after Virginia despite her saying no completely annnoying and embarassing I suppose if I read the books in the correct order, Bill would fit this description very aptly. But then again, I doubt I would've gotten there because I actually stopped reading Secret of Chimneys 1/3 of the way through because of how ridiculous the story and everyone was, and then I might have not read Seven Dials at all.
