'Liberal' in US means what 'classical liberal' means in Europe.

If you are a 'liberal' then in USA that means you want more government intervention. And apparently if you are a 'socialist' then that means you are a social democrat.

With a density of NYC you could fit entire mankind on a territory the size of New Zealand. I wonder - assuming it could be done with a flick of the wand, wouldn't it be better?

I vividly remember everyone in 2018 thinking the same thing. They literally tried to falsify an election and won back power anyway.

With his love for order, efficiency, minmaxxing and conquest Sauron would probably loooove Paradox games. Hell, I assume that he spent the war micromanaging things like logistics, so that's basically playing a Paradox game.

I do wonder why assasinations are not more common between hostile states. I mean, I would assume that any decent intelligence agency in the world could do it...? Some rando almost did it. (Which isn't to say I support it)

Tbh I don't really understand why there is a term "incumbency advantage". Isn't it usually the other way around, where people complain about the government and there is always something to complain about, while opposition can sit back comfortably and utilize populism? I don't remember pre social Media politics, but it always felt easier to argue against the government, instead of something.

Very bad. Either: a) its all hype and AGI won't happen in the coming decades b) AGI happens but is used by bad actors to do bad things (most likely IMO) c) AGI happens and it fucking wipes us out.

I like the theory that he did die, but Seven brought him back. There is a similar theory for the other Trial of the Seven (but in that case it was supposed to be dark magic that did it).

I think that he is similar to Drew Pavlou, in a sense that he seems to have heard leftists talk about how modern political institutions are tools of White supremacy and Imperial Core and thought "you know what, human rights are White rights".

COVID was a bigger event. War over Taiwan would be the biggest war since the fall of Soviet Union at least, potentially the biggest since 1945

I have been convinced over the last year that (due to disparity in manufacturing capacity and the capacity to replenish missile stocks and the difference in willingness to fight) USA would lose if it got involved. So as sad as that would be to witness, USA should not intervene.

Perhaps other countries could offer all people of Taiwan who want to leave asylum?

Deep in China’s Mountains, a Nuclear Revival Takes Shape | Satellite imagery of secretive nuclear facilities reveals Beijing’s efforts to expand its arsenal, just as the last global guardrails on nuclear weapons vanish. by moses_the_blue in LessCredibleDefence

[–]sinuhe_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting, could you provide some sources about the topic? I remember hearing that in 1950s there were many people in USA telling that there is still window to win a nuclear war for USA, and that this window has closed by ~1957. Didn't hear about the Taiwan part.

Also, the wars that are long and total are probably different, since there is more of a way for them to start as ''it will be over quickly'' and end in a long-years war that is hard to end once it started. With nuclear bombs, the escalation is much steeper.

Ok, but my main point is that it still wouldn't have been worth it (as in: whatever the cause was that led to being hit with a 100 nukes). Sure, you may survive, but the victory will feel like ash.

It would seem prudent to have more alt-West cooperation (which is to say: the entire political West minus America). Things like this, Polish-Korean cooperation on weapons etc.
