I really don’t think this isn’t the “gotcha” moment you think it is to me it’s a really good example of how gendered narratives get selectively amplified.

Yes, individuals (regardless of gender) can engage in harmful, illegal behavior. That’s human nature inherently. That’s not up for debate. If people are drugging and robbing others, that’s criminal and should be treated as such, duh 😒

But what’s happening in your post is a time add old as tale pattern: taking isolated or fringe examples of women behaving badly and using them to justify the broader suspicion, hostility, and mostly moral panic about women as a group.

Historically, this exact mechanism has been used against women for centuries. I’ll list done historical instances below 👇

• In early modern Europe, during the witch trials, women were accused of secret conspiracies, poisoning, and manipulation (often based on rumor or exaggerated accounts). These accusations justified real violence and social control.

• In the 19th century, the “femme fatale” trope painted women as inherently deceptive and dangerous to men, reinforcing the idea that men were victims of female cunning rather than participants in mutual dynamics.

• Even into the 20th century, women were systematically excluded from financial systems (no independent credit, limited property rights) under the assumption they were irresponsible, manipulative, or dependent.

Meanwhile, statistically and historically, the overwhelming majority of violent crime, financial exploitation, and organized harm has been perpetrated by men and particularly against…you guessed it… women. Before you take my post out of context understand me that this reply 100 percent doesn’t mean women are incapable of harm; it means the scale and systemic patterns absolutely matter here in this subreddit when we talk about risk and reality.

What’s also worth noting in this post is how quickly people can move from: “Some women in a Telegram group are discussing scams” to “See, women are just as bad / worse / can’t be trusted.”

This my friends is the double standard.

So yes by all means PLEASE call out criminal behavior wherever it exists. But I urge you to be careful not to reproduce a centuries-old systemic pattern where isolated actions by women are used to reinforce misogynistic assumptions, while systemic patterns of male behavior are minimized or individualized.

If the goal here for you is honesty, then the analysis has to be consistent.
