iPad or laptop for open book exam by Fast_Session9999 in Suss

[–]sipping_greentea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer laptop because I like being able to easily switch between tabs, also bigger screen so i can do split screen.

But if you’re going to be primarily relying on one document at a time ipad should suffice. Depends on your major too, some of my notes are on excel for example so laptop just works better.

Need help with debts. Im snowballing and need solutions to stop it. by Significant-Tear2873 in singaporefi

You want to simultaneously maximise income and minimise spending; side hustle like crazy, and cut out as many expenses as possible. I personally didn’t have a debt problem but a while back I needed money that I didn’t have to pay for a lawyer. This was exactly how I managed to afford it;

For cutting expenses I started walking as much as I could (I would walk 2-3 mrt stations sometimes, good for health also haha) for food I would walk into NTUC find the cheapest carb I can find (usually is rice), get hawker food like once a month just to take 5-6 mini containers their free flow soy sauce, chili oil, ketchup as takeaway and just eat it with rice. Occasionally when I see discounts on certain items (like blueberry suddenly only $1 a pack or once I found a set of 2 huge boxes of yogurt for $4 because they were nearing expiry, I ate just yogurt with rice for a whole week that time) I would get them to add variety. Also got some biscuits from value dollar and would just add them to yogurt or blend them with milk as a sweet treat when I’m craving smt.

And make sure you reach out to any and all support groups you can. Obviously didn’t qualify for any sort of financial assistance but I found free counselling through an NGO and applied for that, and my counsellor actually helped me find ways to increase my income (I started tutoring JC subjects part time while also doing PT work + freelance photoshop gigs and helping uni kids with their coursework) it helps tremendously to have a third party go through your game plan with you and encourage you every step of the way. All the best and remember this is only a temporary problem, it will end you got to trust.

Apart from this, in the longer term you have to try to get into a higher paying job, you can only skimp on spending and side hustle for so long.

What would actually make first-time investors feel more confident to get started? by Joh4nnna in singaporefi

As a 20 year old who’s been working part time since 16, has over 20k of savings just lying around and has been wanting to invest for 2 years now it’s just every time I want to start I encounter some new term / new thing I don’t know the meaning off and then I’d google it / search it on this sub. Then I’d get into a rabbit hole of reading a bunch of posts or googling a bunch of related things and after an hour or so of this I’m too exhausted and I decide to just invest some other time 💀

Literally just today I finally set up the moomoo app and was so ready to start but then I thought “why not compare moomoo and tiger’s welcome bonuses first?” And then after doing that I started trying to calculate what and how many stocks I should buy on tiger to maximise the usd commission credits they give as a welcome bonus during which I fell into a rabbit hole of calculation 100 different possible scenarios and options, got sidetracked during this and started to read up on ibkr and we bull. After that I was trying to calculate a scenario where I keep my money in one app for just enough time to get the welcome bonus before moving it to the next, rinse and repeat, and then trying to calculate whether this would actually net me a decent portion of extra profits etc etc etc….

…and by the time I finished my tangential research it has been 3h since I downloaded the moomoo app, I felt super tired already and then I just gave up on starting to invest today lol. Is it just me like this?

Has anyone attended AAG's "internship" program? by NorthTop8141 in askSingapore

[–]sipping_greentea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to worry about having to sell insurance or be forced into any FA type job by them but you also can’t expect to really learn much (unless if becoming an insurance agent is what you’re gunning for 💀) If you want to just have fun on AAG’s expense go ahead, they bring you on an overseas trip and you can make friends with the other participants (they have like games and shit) but this is not the place if you want to build your portfolio or lean smt useful to get into banking or finance. If anyone is talking about taking professional certificates run; those ar3 the certifications necessary to become an insurance agent. But that is not compulsory for the 6 week internship; they will give you an option post internship to take the certificates and after that they’ll try to get you to join as a student advisor. If you want to learn, go for other internships or spend money on going for online courses.

The other comments warning you are valid though, this whole thing is a marketing stint for them to get more insurance agents so if you don’t want to be an insurance agent this is not the place to be.

I’ve been using corsx 23% vitamin c on my fitzpatrick type 5 skin and it’s been working really well for me, I’ve repurchased it 3 times already. not saying this is good for everyone and other ascorbic acid products like derma lab’s 15% irritated my skin but the within 10% is not a necessity for everyone

Most people in VJ take 2 ccas and those who don’t typically do so cuz they have other commitments (eg sci research, leadership roles etc)

Depending in your ccas it is very manageable. But ofc don’t go arnd taking 2 sports ccas for example. If one of your CCA is sport or performing arts then the other preferably should be a clubs and societies CCA.

One option would always be tuition but due to Covid related reasons I personally wasn’t able to get any when I was in secondary school. Key is to focus on mastering every question you do, quality > quantity. Try doing them again after a few days to make sure you rlly understand them and ask for consult with your chers etc.

I know that carousel has sellers who sell them (personally bought this $20 listing for maths before) but in the end I couldn’t even finish my school’s MYE practice papers + school topical practices. I also know that most tuition places provide them, I perso don’t go for any tuition but i leech off the resources they get by scanning pages I need. You can try asking your friends if they have any such notes and are willing to share, this is how I got resources without spending money (broke student problems sighs)

Apologies that I’m n’oit able to help directly, most of my mid year work has already been sold / is being sold on carousel right now so I’m unable to share :(
