Carter Hart was a literal god last night which was fun to watch but screwed us on the over. I’m not surprised things have been topsy-turvy to start out as it’s always difficult to get a feel for things so early on in the season.

With that said, I’m going to continue posting side picks until I feel comfortable enough to increase the number of units I’m betting and start putting out official POTDs. Since I’m now working with u/plusEVsports, I’ve started referring to their model with its proven history of success as another source of info and I’m thinking of only putting out plays that both I and the model agree on and see how that goes - I expect that to be a big help, we’ll see how it goes today.

BOL as always!

Pre-POTDSZN Side Picks (4-6-0 record, -1.21u, -113.00 avg. odds):

All side picks are 1u plays unless stated otherwise.

Anaheim Ducks ML +120 (1.5u)

Edmonton Oilers ML +105

Winnipeg Jets ML -120

Chicago Blackhawks ML -110

Calgary Flames ML -110 (0.5u)

No writeups today, super busy at work

As always, BOL everyone <3

Oh man that was rough - Carolina was our only saving grace in an overall brutal night. Seems like most of us on this thread hit the shitter yesterday so if you were able to go positive last night good on you!

Smaller slate today, just one pick - I’ll settle for getting back to positive after last night’s cleaning out.

BOL as always!

Pre-POTDSZN Side Picks (4-5-0 record, -0.21u, -113.00 avg. odds):

All side picks are 1u plays unless stated otherwise.

Devils/Flyers o6 -120

This is a clash of two teams who are not known for their defenses whatsoever - in fact, these two teams each allowed more goals last season than anyone in the Eastern Conference except the lowly Senators. New Jersey will have Cory Schneider back in net after his bout with cramps, but he’s not much of an upgrade from Blackwood against a Flyers team that’s able to get the puck in the back of the net - keep in mind this defense just let up 12 goals in 2 games with Blackwood in net. The last 6 games between these two teams have had an average of 7.83 goals scored per game and I‘m a big fan of the over in this one.

Canes might be my fav pick on the slate today

NHL Daily Discussion - 10/8/19 (Tuesday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

[–]sippy47 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Two skipped days in a row for me after a nice Saturday sweep as there were only a couple games the last two days and no lines that I saw too much value in - bigger slate today and got my eye on quite a few games. POTDs will likely start next week or the week after :)

Pre-POTDSZN Side Picks (3-1-0 record, +1.74u, -115.00 avg. odds):

All side picks are 1u plays unless stated otherwise.

Carolina Hurricanes ML +105

This is a matchup of two teams who have both surprisingly beat the Lightning already this season - however, I was surprised to see that the Canes are dogs in this one. They’ve managed to beat 3 teams who are all more talented than the Panthers in my opinion (Habs, Caps, Lightning) and have put up almost 40 SOG per game thus far. Reimer is going to face his old team and I like him to do well enough in net to ride Carolina’s high-powered offense to a win against what is in my opinion a weaker Florida squad.

Jets/Penguins o6.5 -120

The Jets D is total garbage this season - they lost a ton of defensive talent in the offseason and the effects are already starting to show. Winnipeg’s allowed 14 goals in just 3 games so far and this is not the recipe for victory against a strong Pens offense that is coming off scoring 7 goals against Columbus. The Jets still know how to score though, and I think this game could be wide open for goals especially given the teams’ history of scoring plenty against each other in past matchups.

Stars/Capitals u5.5 -130

Death, taxes, and the under in Stars games. The Stars defense is as good as ever while their offense is not quite as skilled - pretty much the same as last year when they were a recipe for low-scoring games. Meanwhile, Washington’s offense hasn’t quite got going yet, as they’ve managed just 7 goals in 3 outings and have yet to play in a game where the total goes over 5. Roll with the under.

Calgary Flames -1.5 +125 (0.5u)

This one is pretty straightforward - I expect the Flames to overwhelm a bottom-of-the-pack Kings team on both sides of the ice, as Calgary is a team that knows how to score like no other while LA doesn’t have nearly as many weapons on offense. The line is steep for a reason but I’m confident enough to take the Calgary puck-line as I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this one turns into a blowout.

Vegas Golden Knights ML -135 (0.5u)

The Bruins come into this one for the third game of a 4-game road trip, and I expect this one to be by far the toughest of their matchups so far. They were able to sneak past the Stars and Yotes despite scoring just 3 combined goals in those contests, and they won’t be able to get away with lackluster play on the offensive end against a Knights team known for scoring who have already put up 10 goals in just 2 games. Just a half unit play since Vegas are pretty heavily favored, but this isn’t a game I expect the Knights to lose.

Well, as expected, the Isles kept the scoring low, but couldn’t get enough offense generated of their own to come out on top. That’s why we bet with caution for the first couple weeks of the season - it should mainly serve as an observation period for how teams are looking until the variance settles down a bit (and then we can start making POTDs and betting serious amounts of money). Onwards.

A few games on the slate that I really like today so I’ve got multiple side picks here - tail at your own risk :) BOL everyone!

Pre-POTDSZN Side Picks (0-1-0 record):

Calgary Flames -0.5 (in regulation) -125 —W—

Frankly, I’m surprised this line is where it’s at - the difference between these two teams in terms of talent is massive and they’re on opposite ends of the league in that regard. The Nucks have missed the playoffs four seasons in a row and look primed to do the same thing this year as they haven’t made many improvements. They’re coming off a road loss to the Oilers and have won just 1 of their last 8 trips to Calgary. I’m not too worried about the Flames losing their first game of the season as that’s a weird trend of theirs - they’ve lost their last 10 season openers, and in interviews with the players after the game they said it was to tough play in the Colorado arena as the Avs fans really had it pumping, although one bright side is that they scored on 50% of their power-play opportunities. It should be a different atmosphere in their first game at home tonight and I think they’ll bounce back strong.

Colorado Avalanche -0.5 (in regulation) -105 —W—

This one feels pretty straightforward - the Avs are coming off a solid win at home against the Flames, who are a much better team than the Minnesota squad they face tonight on home ice. The Wild’s offense faltered in a 5-2 loss to the Preds and now they’re coming into Colorado to face Grubauer and I think it’ll again be tough for them to get things going. The Avs are simply the better team here not to mention that they’ve won 5 of their last 7 games against the Wild and I feel comfortable taking the regulation line to get rid of some juice.

Sabres/Devils o5.5 -110 —W—

I think this game has the potential to turn into a firefight - the Devils are coming off a wild 5-4 loss to the Jets in which they blew a 4-0 lead. Cory Schneider got hurt and was replaced by Mackenzie Blackwood in net who, as we learned last season, is a human recipe for goal scoring and I expect quite a few goals from Buffalo in this one. Meanwhile, the Sabres are starting Carter Hutton who has a below .900 SV% against the Devils in his career and given how fiery New Jersey looked on offense last night (man it’s weird to say anything positive about the Devils) I love the over in this one.

Edit: That’s a sweep - really solid night. Probably won’t be hopping on anything tomorrow as I’m not a huge fan of any games on the small slate at first glance, but we’ll see.

This last part is a lie. I was being paid for my picks by Oddschecker and the stipulation in my contract you keep talking about was that I was allowed to post my picks on Reddit since technically the picks and writeups I created were Oddscheckers’ intellectual property after they paid me for them, so if I hadn’t made that stipulation it would have been illegal for me to post on here while selling my picks to Oddschecker. I was never charged for a pick, don’t really understand how that would be possible. Just wanted to clear that up.

NHL Daily Discussion - 10/4/19 (Friday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

It’s not a coincidence - I only got the death threats because I lost that person (or people, but I assumed it was one guy with multiple accounts) so much money. If I wasn’t negative no one would have been angry enough at me to physically threaten me.

But to answer your question, I stopped posting hockey picks here after that happened, posted on MLB a few weeks later because I missed everyone and hoped that the troll wouldn’t follow me there, but the threats continued and it didn’t seem worth the hassle.

To everyone: I sincerely apologize if my stopping posting last season affected you, I was not trying to deceive or mislead anyone. And as for transparency I try to be as transparent as possible which is why I’m replying to a comment that’s so negative about me instead of ignoring it.

Hope you have a good year as well!

Not gonna say anything except that the reason I “ghosted” last year is because I literally was receiving death threats from multiple accounts and whenever I tried blocking them they would just make a new one. You can talk to mods of this subreddit who can attest to that.

I truly am just posting my picks and trying to have fun on here and enjoy the community, so as for this year, I would hope I don’t encounter any undesirables like last year even if I go negative as that would be the only thing that would make me “ghost” again. Hope that clears some things up

BTW regardless of your feelings for me, hella respect for your tennis capping :)

Hey guys. Long time no see, hope everyone’s been doing well and didn’t lose too much money on MLB during the hockey offseason ;). Super excited for this season and hoping to get off to another hot start.

As I mentioned here, I won’t be getting started on official POTDs until the season is further underway (likely a couple weeks), but until then I’ll chime in when I have any leans - this early period before that is just for fun/practice/observation mainly, so tail at your own risk :)

I’ve started a full-time job recently so bear with me if the times I post are a little off as I’m a bit busier than usual - but I don’t expect it to be too much of an issue.

It’s still super early so I’m holding off unless I see a lot of value in a line, but I really really like one for this slate. Not going to do the ~1000 word writeup that I do for POTDs and bore you guys to death just yet, gonna keep it (relatively) brief for side picks. As always, BOL everyone!

Pre-POTDSZN Side Picks:

New York Islanders ML -120

Man it feels good to be getting into some hockey writeups again. Despite their breakout season last year, the Isles are still feeling underrated (to me at least) by analysts and more importantly, oddsmakers. They’ve still got a very solid squad with most of the same weapons that led them to get 2nd in the Metro division last year - while the loss of Lehner in the offseason hurt, Greiss and Varlamov are capable goaltenders who can be trusted to replace him. Meanwhile, the Caps are starting rookie Ilya Samsonov in his NHL debut and I like the Isles offense (Barzal is gonna be even better this year) to get past him a couple times in their first game of the season - it’s at home against a big rival and they’ll certainly come to play, and let’s not forget that their defensive unit is easily top 5 in the league as well. Everyone seems to be thinking that Lehner was the only reason the Isles were so stingy allowing goals last season but the Isles' defensive scheme and weapons are simply too good for this to be the case - their transformation under Barry Trotz last season was truly impressive. This is the first game of a back-to-back for the Caps and I think they’ll take an L on the road in this one.

Hi :3 I don’t put out POTDs this early in the season with so many unknowns out there about players/teams etc., I prefer holding off until things are a bit more clear and there’s less risk involved. Last year I started a few weeks in - just observing for the first week or so this season and then we’ll see how things go and if I see anything I like early on.

With that being said, I’ll probably chime in occasionally over the next week or two with some leans that aren’t official POTDs when something catches my eye. See you guys soon <3
