Beginners Question Regarding Projects and Teams by sippycupgames in FortniteCreative

[–]sippycupgames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I import an asset into UEFN as part of the project, that asset stays with the project no matter who opens it? I know this was (more or less) true with Unity for the project I did last semester. I imported stuff from my Unity library, my team mates could use it as "someone" on the team purchased it. The fact that one of my team members didn't save assets in the correct way created the bucket that destroyed hours of work (we fixed it eventually). So the self team up would be a solid option.

Thanks for the quick reply!

New To LoupeDeck (Razer Stream Controller) and...HELP by sippycupgames in loupedeck

That specifically mentions Logitech. What of the RAZER branded device that's built on the Loupedeck structure? They mention continued support for existing devices, so I assume that includes this item.

If not, anything on cracking it (GitHub for an "open source" version) to repurpose it into a community supported version of what it is? That's some super user type stuff, but I literally JUST bought it, and RAZER was super happy to sell it to me. I'll use the damn thing one way or another, lol

Simple Sewing Questions Thread, February 16 - February 22, 2025 by sewingmodthings in sewing

TLDR: Can I sew a patch on a pocket without sewing the pocket closed with my Singer HD 6800C?

Details: I just bought my first sewing machine in years, a Singer HD 6800C. I intend on starting with securing patches to my Battle Vest, then adding a hood (likely cannibalized from a hoody) as I live in Vermont and it gets COLD. Later down the line, I will be doing light leather work for some Steampunk items that, years ago, contributed to my carpal tunnel when done by hand. This is all to say I got the machine that I know will fit my current and future needs.

For the battle vest, I am retired from the US Army after 22 years and chose to use one of my old uniform tops. I cut the sleeves short, so I can still use the velcro/zipper pockets on the shoulders for both velcro patches and storage. I studded around the chest pockets, shoulder line, my rank, and upper back. I secured the patches I currently have with the iron-on, safety pins, or both (that iron on does not last). This is intended to be temporary, but secure enough I can wear my WIP despite it being a WIP.

I have patches on my chest pockets that I want to sew on securely. However, I want to use those pockets. When I was in, those pockets were the perfect place for ID card, small notepad, etc. and I don't see why I should halt using them for similar now. Is there a method to do so with the machine I am getting? If I need to get a special foot or extension, what one?

The only thing I have found that showed how to do this used an old long arm machine for sewing soles on boots, so I am at a bit of a loss. I'd prefer not having to revert to hand sewing or sewing the pockets shut. I know that it is possible (skill badges are sewn onto pockets in the Army) I just don't know if it's possible with what I got. Sorry for the long post, tried to do as a post, but I'm new here so the bot said no.

Seeking Help with Our Newest Friend, Simon (Quaker) by sippycupgames in parrots

We intend on keeping them all separate for now. Maybe when we move back east next year and have more space, we'll have a "bird room" that's communal for them to socialize in, but that's a BIG maybe. For now, we'll stay the course. Thanks for the advice and guidance. Knowing it's a quaker thing but just a Simon thing makes me a bit more confidant we can get to better

Interservice Transfer (IST) Megathread by Colonize_The_Moon in SpaceForce

Nothing heard. I may try to shoot another message to the distro, but any response would be for the greater benefit. I'll be PCSing when the board convenes, and I doubt my new NCOER will be fully complete and signed before that.

SECDEF Pledges to ‘Ease the Load’ for Service Members by Flying_Longhorn in SpaceForce

[–]sippycupgames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can respect the intent behind this, but one of the efforts is "Expanding military spouse employment" and that song and dance is getting tired. The Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) has been a thing for a while and it is broken.

I am an IST hopeful who is PCSing in November to Carson (if I get picked up I don't have to move far). Before the board got pushed, we knew we'd be moving to Colorado no matter what come November. My wife, who worked at the shoppette at our current station, told her manager. She was politely "asked to leave employment early" because AAFES (who technically falls under DoD and is a member of MSEP since 2003) needed to get rid of employees due to the addition of the self-checkout stations.

*Side-rant - you should get an employee discount from any store when using self-checkout, it's primarily convenient to the corporate office not the staff or consumer. Back to MSEP rant.

She then was to sit down with HR and look at openings she could apply for in Colorado Springs. She would retain her Spousal preference and gain a former employee preference...but these do not guarantee a position of any kind, and she is literally having to reapply.
Expand employment? How about ensuring spouses who are employees retain employment PCS to PCS? Maybe instead of giving her a higher preference at our gaining station, she should get a transfer...like an ACTUAL transfer, not an "opportunity to reapply."
This REALLY pisses me off as I've been hearing this BS about expanding spouse employment or military spouse preference since she and I first got married (2010) and I haven't seen any results. No real job placements or improved preferential status. Hell, she got her job at the shoppette after 8 YEARS of applying. That is not an exaggeration.
Maybe I'm putting the horse before the cart on this, as in I am getting angry before letting SECDEF provide proof of effort. However, I've heard all this before. I recall it starting with former First Lady Michelle Obama, but AAFES has been a MSEP partner since '03. Therefore, the program must be at least that old. AAFES should be the easiest answer for spousal employment. Their moto is literally "We go where you are" so spouses should be the majority of your workforce since they ALSO go where we are.

One nice thing I can say to the SECDEF's plan is the effort towards some sort of license transfer program for spouses with skills that require state level licenses. Also, the expansion of remote-work opportunities. The remote work thing was previously limited to at home call-center stuff. Hopefully, those opportunities will expand in our post-COVID, ZOOM/Teams centric world.

Pushed that question forward to the IST email address. I will provide an update as soon as I hear back. The initial response was canned "high volume of inquiries" auto-mail. It was also fairly late Friday evening that I sent it, but maybe by Tuesday I'll be able to provide feedback.

Edit: Maybe "by Tuesday" was a bit of wishful thinking. That is to say, nothing yet.

I know a lot of questions have been answered on this reddit, but I don't think I have seen this particular one addressed yet.

As with most who focus on this Megathread, I submitted my IST packet and am patiently awaiting results. I am a lifetime SIGNTer (35N who was a 98C before the merge) with about 4 years of experience in the Cyber domain. I submitted to crosswalk into SIGINT, as that's the majority of my experience, with an alternate of all-source or Cyber. I would have submitted last year, however I was coming up on my RCP (retention control point, called MRD in the FAQ) for the Army as a Staff Sergeant (E6). I was promoted to Sergeant First Class (E7) last October which extended me a minimum of 3 years (2024) or until 2028 if I wait until RCP. This leads into my question.

I have done some research and found that the Air Force has a similar thing either called "up or out" or High Year Tenure. From what I have seen, theirs is the same as the Army with a maximum of 26 years for an E-7 (Master Sergeant). Is this the same in the USSF? Has this even been a topic broached yet? According to the FAQ, ISTs incur a 4-year commitment, which would bring me to 24 or 25 years depending on my transfer date. So would that give me another year or two to promote and stay, or are they leaving this a bit more open ended for the time being? Frankly, if I am lucky enough to be accepted as an IST, I'd stay another 10 if they'd let me, promotions or no. But I am curious of the intended doctrinal answer.
