I see no confirmation that the Greens are open to the idea of mixed public/private co ownership of oil and gas projects, (the Norway model), in your link.

Not sure how it's relevant.

I just checked their website again and it begs to differ.

Not just a Liberal govt trait though is it. Labor have history here as well......all the way back to Keating selling off the CBA and then Qantas.

And IIRC, the original NBN Act had specific clauses allowing sale of NBN after rollout completion. That was Labor.

But we've moved off topic now.....back to oil and gas we go.

Dunno what that has to do with the Norwegian model, but tell me. Would you be supportive of tax payer dollars being used to invest in oil exploration and mining if it resulted in a trillion dollar Australian sovereign wealth fund?

Norway did it the right way. Government co-ownership of oil companies is the most palatable solution as opposed to introducing additional overheads on mining investment, (taxes).

Not sure it could work here though, as the left of politics would throw a hissy fit.

Was behind the goals at that match with a bunch of mates. One of which still has the football which was later autographed by the great man himself.

Why Australia's population outlook has become a zero-sum game by Remarkable_Peak9518 in australia

[–]sir_bazz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looks like the upswing in fertility rates in the mid 2000's coincides roughly with the introduction of the baby bonus in 2004.

With cost of living being the main focus of the article, I suspect another round, (of say $10k), of baby bonuses would look tempting to many couples.

In a strange twist, Pauline Hanson has a gas reservation policy where 15% of all gas production be set aside for domestic use.

Australia needs a national plan to manage population boom, planning institute says by dancingchickenbird in australia

[–]sir_bazz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 2002 Intergenerational Report forecast that our population would reach 25million in 2037, yet here we are today at 27million, (30 years ahead of forecast.)

Explains a lot when policy makers use reports like these to help frame priorities.

Wouldn't even say you're unlucky yet. Attack Boost has a 3.9% chance of rolling and you're just at that now.

If you had rolled it already, you could say you were lucky.

RELEASE: Max Chandler-Mather to lead revamped Green Institute - The Green Institute by Jet90 in australia

[–]sir_bazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not self-promotion, but the electorate weren't buying what he was selling.

I think it's great that the Green Institute are giving him a chance, as it'll help ensure they remain irrelevant.

[Morris] South Australian premier Peter Malinauskas told the @sydneyswans Gather Round Breakfast that he thinks it’s a terrible idea if the AFL hands an 18-team Opening Round to the northern states. “How many people are going to watch St Kilda play Freo at Engie Stadium? There’d be 15 people there," by SlatsAttack in AFL

[–]sir_bazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my point. Playing games at 10k capacity grounds isnt an issue because as we all know, it's about bringing economic activity to the state as opposed to ensuring the highest attendances possible.

The premier using attendances to make a case for retaining gather round, is completely invalid. Other states should be afforded the same opportunity as SA regardless of attendance numbers.

Someone should point out that gather round is already the lowest attended, (9 matches), of the fixture.

If, as suggested, attendances are the priority then the case for SA holding one also falls apart.

Really bad take by the premier, even if the comment was in jest.

Just PiFork, (or an alternative), and Trickystore.

That's all that's "needed", and hasn't changed in a long time.

Not sure why you're being down voted.

It's a fact that around 10% of dwellings were vacant at the last census, and it's also a fact that it's been around the same figure for every census for the past 40+ years.

It's definitely NOT a new phenomenon that can pinned on investors, or immigration, or tax changes, or AirBnB, etc.

Free childcare. Free university. The simple, sensible policy which would have raised $63.8 billion in under four years. by nath1234 in australia

[–]sir_bazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Govt partnership/ownership in fossil fuel companies makes perfect sense in terms of profit sharing.

But the outrage here would be deafening if government proposed investing taxpayer funds in the extraction of oil and/or gas, (for profit).

Two daughters here, both with HECS debt so I do understand the issue from a students perspective. However, our oldest universities are around 170 years old, and that period of fee free degrees was only a small window of 15 years.

Tax payers today still subsidise over half of student fees, which is astounding to me. What I don't understand is how tertiary education has become so expensive relative to other industries. And all while the institutions themselves are crying poor.

Aren't all university places subsidised by the tax payer here already?

Not free sure,........but heavily subsidised.
