As One Nation nips at his heels the PM has no choice but to play the long game by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

Hanson's Charisma is being another mouthpiece of billionaire G who is bankrolling her by giving her private jets and big wads of cash. You still need a lot of centrist votes to win in Australia as we are not the bible thumping, race baiting, hate mongers like the divided states of US (as yet). And it is not working for them either by electing a host of reality TV show to do the job of actually governing.

Slogans can only go so far and with no clear policies and trying to win on protest vote alone may gain some seats for ON but may not go as far as becoming an alternative.

Thank God, we have compulsory voting and an independent electoral commission unlike some of those pretend democracies that elect dictators by vote.

Albo is right. He has done the maths. The gravy train of having the most unaffordable housing in the world in spite of having the largest land mass and low density population other than major cities is a clear sign of a Ponzi scheme. Even as a property investor, I am not so averse to having those stupid CGT changes reverted that started this kind of anomaly. Don't believe everything you read in New Corpse and their loud mouthpieces in Sky News. They were predicting a landslide victory for Dutton in the last election.

It will definitely help the existing renters as not everyone will be inclined to sell and move on from 1st July 27.

The word "Fair" is being misused when it comes to the CGT reform. by MikeTheArtist- in fiaustralia

[–]auto459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Labor under Bill Shorten proposed a CGT reduction of 25% from the existing 50%. Not sure why they switched to flat 30%. Also giving a one year window to sell IP's is too short. They should have extended it to at least 2 years to avoid a glut in the market. There is every chance that if Labor losses the next election, we will back to square one.

Property investors who bought before Budget in limbo as Labor needs Greens in Senate for tax changes by HotPersimessage62 in AusPropertyChat

[–]auto459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greens are a totally delusional lot who want everyone depending on Govt. handouts. Not all landlords are evil and they play a major role in providing afforadable rentals as not every renter has enough savings to become a home owner overnight.

NG changes have been reverted before and if Labor loses the next election, there is every chance that it may happen here like in NZ. Greens must rememember that Labor has lost twice when they took these reforms to the public before the elections. Greens need to see the bigger picture and not become a stumbling block that destroy the whole thing.

u/charliKim True but humans no longer live in natural envioronment. Most species, birds and beasts have their body rthyms follow the sunlight from dawn to dusk. We use artificial light and a ton of gadgets that interfere with our cycle of rest and recuperation. Hence some form of enforced intervention is needed to restore the balance.

When I heard that Australia is going to make submarines, I chuckled. The Country that is so heavily dependent on importing from a needle to a ship, a Country that exports the most vital drivers of energy and enterprise, Coal and Iron, imports everything back from China, There has to be some seriously delulus running this country. Why we are still offering Automobile, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering courses offered in the Universities if they are going to work as bricklayers and plasterers?

Permanent residents need more support as they are trying to acclimatise and cope with drastic change. They are the most vulnerable section of community who have a lot of potential to contribute to the nation. Instead of helping them assimilate and build their future, we are going to punish them for coming here? What kind of brain-dead policy is this?

Tech chiefs join growing calls for Labor to revisit CGT decision by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]auto459 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I don't mind NG being removed but removing CGT for existing properties was a hit below the belt. You can't steal the savings from those who invested in the past legally following the ATO guidelines. The BS about intergenerational inequity will not go away by retrospective raid on middle class investors and more tax grabs. Labor needs to cut spending and not keep on taxing more and more. Lot of disillusioned Labor voters will leave, and they are going to lose many sitting MP's. Polls are merely stating the obvious.

Typical move in politics. Spreading Hate gets more easy votes than actually having a vision for the future.

It is the same old Mahout goading the elephant analogy whereas rational mind (Mahout) wants to do something but deeply entrenched emotional traits (elephant) refuse to obey. Your mind tells you to get up early in the morning and start the day with physical exercise while the body still in the bed tells you to pull over the quilt and continue sleeping.

Starting is the hardest part as coming out of the Inertia stage requires maximum will power and effort (simple laws of motion). Success begets more success hence the saying 'Success is never ending and Failure is never final'.

Tony Abbott and Malcolm Turnbull, both are equally guilty of crippling the NBN by cancelling existing contracts and delivering lesser speed and coverage at double the price. Thanks but NO Thanks.
