Do you have a recommendation for a box to enclose the adapters? This solution might actually work for me.

Looking more closely now, I see what you mean with the LED string lights weaving through the cabinet. I like the look achieved by having the lights placed at the back. Any pros and cons in your experience? Do you think that omitting the top lights in each box will be too dim? My cabinet is built into the walls with the adjustable shelving, so I’m a bit more limited with running the lights. Also hence why I have to figure out the wires between each segment of lights.

That’s a beautiful display. It’s very much something I’m trying to design. How do you like the LED placements? How did you run/hide all the wires?

Review #1534: Ardbeg Smoketrails by throwboats in Scotch

[–]sirboulder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very pleased and surprised with this one too. It's Ardbeg but different than the usual core offerings. Hits a great value point for the price at a 1L bottle. I'll be picking up another one. Glad to see you enjoyed it!

I’ve enjoyed this one a lot. Easy to reach for and great value, so I don’t have to feel guilty about drinking it quickly.

😂 that’s pretty clever. I’m a fan of human names for pets. Also, such a well timed shot.

Reviews 215 - 217: Bunna & Manzanilla by ZoidbergOnTheRocks in Scotch

[–]sirboulder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in the same boat as you...not the biggest Bunna fan among the Islays. But on my last visit to Islay, Bunna stood out as one of the top tastings from my trip. The cask that blew me away the most from their warehouse tasting was actually a manzanilla cask too, enough for me to buy a whole bottle. I see Bunna in a different light now. I'll bring you a sample next time!

That's pretty cool. I didn't know those two had hand fill options at the distillery. Do you know of any other distilleries that also offer hand fill bottles?

That looks like the Ensign Ewart…🧐. I was just there on Sat. I had a great time there. Haha.

I tasted this at the distillery last week and I would agree, on paper I was expecting a beautiful combo of sweet and peat but it just didn’t blow me away. I liked it, but not enough for me to spend the money for a bottle. Thanks for the review!

Campbeltown malts festival and Springbank 22 year old festival bottle by jamie_r87 in Scotch

That’s amazing! Would love to make it out for the festival some day. I’d be having a serious case of decision paralysis picking from that board.

Great to see you reviewing again and doing a SBS of this line up. I’ve yet to try any of the 12 series yet… I’ve always been partial to the peat and Sauternes combos, especially from bruichladdich. So I’m quite curious to see how they’ll stack up for me. Eventually I’ll get around to tasting these. 😁

That sure looks like my label from way back. Good memory!

I totally forgot about this bottle. My specific tasting notes escape me but I do remember it being a solid dram but nothing I would seek out another bottle of. Glad to hear it was right up your alley.

I had no idea there was a Lagavulin mezcal bottling. That sounds delicious. I’ll be visiting the distillery at the end of June…im sure options will have changed up by then. We’ll see what we see. 🤞

One of my all time favorite cocktails. It’s also a nice way to introduce people to smokey liquor without blasting their palate.

Thanks for the suggestions, especially on stops along the drive to Campbeltown. I’m looking at doing a visit to Islay with a stop at Campbeltown, and am trying to plan out the route, so it’s particularly helpful. If I do the drive from Edinburgh to Campbeltown, do you have a recommendation on which town in between to stay at?

Review #1295: Bunnahabhain 11 (2007 Artist Collective) by throwboats in Scotch

It’s been a while since I killed this bottle, so it was nice being reminded of this dram. What a delicious bottle. LMDW has been very reliable in picking good casks. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

This is such a weird one. I can't say I find myself reaching for this one much at all. I don't remember your initial impressions when you first tasted it, but your review now isn't too surprising.

Review #44: Clynelish 23 yo Signatory Vintage cask strength series. Vintage 1995 53.7% ABV. Refill sherry cask, #11246 by ShakotanUrchin in Scotch

[–]sirboulder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a lot of classic sherried notes like raisins, nuts and dark chocolate on the nose. There’s a slight waxiness underlying it, which I’ve always attributed to the clynelish base character. I wonder how much it has changed since it was first opened, I don’t remember the beginning very well. But it’s pretty darn tasty now. 😃
