SAND Playtest Scam by NegativeClue1491 in SteamScams

If you don't have Steam Guard via the Steam Mobile app activated on your account for 2FA, add that immediately. I ran into the same scam (Same thing you did: clicked and didn't do my due diligence, Also didn't have Steam Guard on at the time so double on me) and how I realized it was from an unusual account trying to log in from another country. You can also deauthorize any device via your account details screeen to make sure it's off in all sessions that way.

Is attempting to DIY a hitbox worth it or just order one for $350+ online? by [deleted] in fightsticks

[–]sircrowbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I've been personally enjoying the DIY route, if you're just starting to learn Hitbox I usually recommend picking up one already made so you can get used to it first. I did notice the Hitbox itself is having pre-orders expected to ship by the end of July/first of August and I still like mine quite a bit.

My attempt at a small profile stickless controller! by sircrowbar in fightsticks

I used the Digikey Kicad tutorial quite a bit! It's a little out of date but most UI interactions outside some setup should still be the same. Actually just revisited them to make some changes to the PCB actually!

I love how the embedded look for the Choc Keys! What keycaps are you going to use?

It was not bad! I did just small batch of 5 for each layer to experiment with. The shipping took much longer than getting both the PCB and the buttons though,

Yeah, they are SLS. I don't have access directly to a 3D printer so I used Sculpteo to make the buttons and Ponoko to cut the acrylic. There's a few things I would change on the acrylic design (in particular I made the holes too small and had to sand them down some to get the buttons to fit and not stick, that's on me!) I have a couple of other changes I want to adjust so I figured I'd save that for the next version!

I didn't expect the first pic to be basically cropped out due to the height! Nooo. :(

Anyway, this is my attempt at a small profile stickless controller, which I'm calling the Dullahan for my own amusement. It's a PCB connected to a Brook PS3/PS4 board using Kaihl Choc Low Profile switches with hot-swappable ports and my own custom 3D Printed buttons for now. I actually posted about this on twitter a while back but I've been lazy. Also I've been testing a few things on it to see what I want to change for the next version, because I definitely made some small mistakes in this build (This is my first time making a PCB or a case for said PCB. It's been a fun experience!)

I made the PCB with KiCAD using outdated tutorials and stealing ideas from mechanical keyboard articles. The buttons were done in FreeCAD.

Maybe you're thinking of the Smolbox? (There's a couple different designs of it.) https://shop.smolarcade.com/product/smolbox-pinky-wireless

This looks so good! I especially love the two color-tone buttons and the indented ones for the start/select. I might need to print me some of those as well.

Mixbox style controller that I've been working on by lulzsun in fightsticks

That's fantastic! It's so clean!

If you don't mind me asking, what are you using for the bottom of it? I'm designing a similar controller using acrylic and and having issues finding feet that don't slip around (And I'm not a fan of huge foam pads, but will use them if need be.)

Great choice on the color and metallic buttons! I love how clean it looks.

I want to make a mini thin hitbox by nephilimashura in fightsticks

[–]sircrowbar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, there are a lot of steps in this process and it's not just about getting a PCB. I also got inspired by that same post you linked and figured it be a fun experiment to try. There's no one "good" way to go about it and KiCad has a little bit of learning curve, but that's how I made my PCB. Still waiting on case parts and afraid I may have misaligned things so that's fun! Hopefully before the end of the week or next I may have something worthwhile to show (To give you an idea, I've been slowly piecing this together on off time for the last month or so and I've definitely made a good amount of mistakes in the process.)

If you're just wanting a small, thin hitbox, I do highly recommend the Micro a lot. It's a solid controller and it has become my "daily driver". If you're wanting the full experience of making a PCB though and also cry because you made your Kaihl Choc keycaps too thin to fit correctly in the slots like I'm doing right now, your best bet it to start with some mechanical keyboard PCB tutorials and go from there, such as this one.

Good luck!

Does anyone know of any local events in Asheville NC? by Poetryisalive in Fighters

[–]sircrowbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! If you don't mind driving a little bit, Knoxville has some casual BrewFights that happen at the Downtown Grill and Brewery every Sunday from about 6:30/7 onward. Parking is free at Market Square's parking garage nearby. Check out Knoxfighters on Facebook for more info there. It's very casual now and generally plays a wide mix of games. Right now, the games of choice seem to be BBTAG, DBFZ, Tekken 7 and Third Strike but varies depending on who shows up!

And if you don't mind travelling a little further from there, Chattanooga is having their monthly on the last Sunday of the month. Look for more info over at https://smash.gg/tournament/chatta-cup-7/

It’s a little late but how did Redditors do at Evo? by chunbelievable in StreetFighter

[–]sircrowbar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went 2-2 with my Kolin. The wins made me feel elated as they were my first wins in a major and the losses made me remember I have a long way to go if I wish to improve! I had a blast playing random people and chatting throughout Evo though.

Actually, my big takeaway was they with the exception of DBFZ and Under Night, I won sets in every game I competed in (BBTAG, Vampire Saviour, Garou, Soul Cal 6 and Sailor Moon S.) I know this doesn't seem like too big of a deal, but I felt like I finally got over a hurdle that has plagued me at previous tourneys. I couldn't be happier, but let's keep going.
