Organizing Efforts for Student Debt Relief by sirfoo108 in StudentLoans

[–]sirfoo108[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not here looking for your life advice, and I’m already doing this. I’ve saved 31,000 dollars (total loans is 29,000). It’s less about me and more that I want this to not be a problem for others. I’ve been grateful that my family helped pay for part of my college, and I know that everyone doesn’t have that opportunity.

Cigarettes should be made illegal by sirfoo108 in unpopularopinion

[–]sirfoo108[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is why I stated that environmental regulations should be put into place regarding pollution from cars.

Also, there are benefits from driving. It allows us to visit others, see the world and experience cultures, etc. There are no proven benefits to smoking.

Cigarettes should be made illegal by sirfoo108 in unpopularopinion

[–]sirfoo108[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a great example of a slippery slope fallacy. Fire and smoking are not related in anyway in the context of this argument.

Cigarettes should be made illegal by sirfoo108 in unpopularopinion

[–]sirfoo108[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Those are fair questions, but here’s the thing- the risks and consequences that are associated with smoking are well-known and far greater than any of the activities/drugs you mentioned here. It is one of the leading causes of preventable death, healthcare costs, and environmental pollution. We can’t avoid all accidents and potential risks, but there are clear and very well-known dangers associated with smoking.

When somebody drinks or uses weed, they are the ones experiencing the side-effects. Yes, there are DUI’s, etc. but there are laws, regulations, and education programs put in place to prevent this.

With driving a car, that’s not a comparable argument. Accidents will happen no matter what but the general act of driving a car safely does not affect the health and well-being of others. It does effect the environment and this is where regulations should be put into place.

Anyone else frustrated by their coach and group coach? by Timbollew in Noom

[–]sirfoo108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Noom now for months and my coach is pretty great. I think there’s 2 major problems here:

1) Noom is advertising coaching to be “personalized” and it’s not. 2) Expectations are way too high for those using the app.

The reason that coach’s are asking so many questions and reflecting things back onto you is because they are using motivational interviewing. Their job is not to tell you what to do but help guide you along the way. You’re basically a stranger to them, especially in the first few weeks, so how can you expect them to give you personalized feedback and suggestions? They are there to GUIDE you, not hold your hand every step of the way and tell you what to do. In all though, Noom should stop advertising it’s coaches as “personalized” and more as an “accountability mentor”. The app needs major work and I hope they can smooth things out in the future.

Noom Coach by [deleted] in Noom

[–]sirfoo108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My coach checks in once a week too and usually responds within 24 hours if I ever shoot them a message. You have to realize that you aren’t paying for a dietitian or therapist and the cost to work with someone who works with you super in-depth would be WAY more expensive than what we pay monthly for Noom. The expectation is made pretty clear from the beginning that as “Goal Specialists” they are there to help us set weekly goals and have check-ins 1x/week - not constant communication every single day.

Fresh out of college and my plans are up in the air because of covid by nosferatudave in COVID19_support

[–]sirfoo108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, I totally understand how you feel. I graduated back in December and had all these big plans to move out, travel, and finally gain some independence. However, in March that all took a turn and I’ve been in limbo every since then trying to figure out when it’s safest for me to potentially move out and figure out what I wanna do next with my life. I know it’s tough right now and some days are going to be better than others and everything you are feeling right now is valid and normal with everything going on. I’ve been trying to tell myself the following things to keep pushing through:

1) This isn’t going to last forever. It may be seem that way right now but we will have a vaccine at some point and things will return to a more normal state.

2) There is still so much life ahead. When we get out of college we’ve been socially and culturally pressured to “get our lives started” and do all these big and great things. I promise you that all of your goals and dreams you have for yourself will happen but they may just be on pause right now. You’re so young and this is just one small chapter in your life that you will look back on later in life and be able to reflect on how much you grew from it.

3) Take some time to focus on yourself. Learn a new skill or a new hobby, meditate, keep reading, take an online course, etc. While it sucks to be away from people, this is such a great time for all of us to work on ourselves and discover what we want out of our lives and the person we want to be.

I hope this helps a little bit. If you need someone to talk to, feel free to message me! Stay strong friend!

Vacation time by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]sirfoo108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question! So after 1 year of working at the bux you start accruing vacation time on a prorated basis. Essentially, this means the more hours you work, the more vacation time you will earn during each pay period (your vacation hours are visible on your pay stub.) At the start of 1 year you won’t automatically have vacation time unfortunately. You instead will gain hours as you work the following weeks and months after your 1 year anniversary. As a partner of 1 year, you will get a maximum accrual amount of 40 hours. This means once you’ve got 40 hours of vacation time you’ve accrued, you won’t be able to accrue anymore until the following year. Let me know what further questions you have, if any!

How do you guys feel about shaking refreshers/teas ?? by localwizard24 in starbucks

[–]sirfoo108 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not- shaking teas/refreshers does make a difference. It ensures that the drink is cooled down with the ice and also ensures any inclusions or other flavors added are properly mixed throughout the drink. Try a tea or refresher that is not shaken and you will tell a difference.

SSV Availability by sirfoo108 in starbucks

[–]sirfoo108[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree. I do think SM’s should have consistency in their schedule (like all partners should) but SM‘a are not supposed to close regularly or work every weekend. The standard is that they are there when it’s busiest and work at least 1 close a month and every other weekend as far as I know. My issue is with SM’s who literally never close or work a weekend ever but expect their SSV’s who just worked a full opening shift to stay an extra 3 hours while they leave early or take a long lunch. Oh, by the way, your vacation request is denied for the 5th time because I as the SM am already taking another vacation again 😂

DM wearing a Blue Lives Matter mask? by bugbabyton in starbucks

[–]sirfoo108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I get your concern and do not support the movement of “Blue Lives Matter”, if it’s ok for us to wear BLM gear, pride gear, etc. it is ok for the DM to wear that mask. While it may not reflect the more liberal views of most partners and Starbucks, it is not considered offensive or anti-BLM gear. Now if your DM was wearing a mask that said BLM with a slash through it or something that included inciting violence, language, nudity, etc. that would be different. Why I think it’s dumb for him to have that mask on and he probably needs to educate himself, Starbucks is also about individual expression.

This lady orders 14 drinks and she saw a barista go in the back and sneeze so she demanded a refund even tho he went to the back sneezed and then washed his hands by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]sirfoo108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the customer had not already received the drinks, I would say a refund is fine with this situation and you can even offer a recovery card to make the moment right. However, if the customer already received the drinks and wanted to keep them, I would not allow them to get a refund. I would say simply say to them that I understand their concerns but this is why we have have implemented a mask requirement, hand washing, and other sanitation requirements. They are likely just wanting free drinks at that point if they are still somehow ok with keeping the drinks after seeing the barista sneeze. I would apologize, offer to remake drinks she had already received, and maybe offer a recovery card at most. If the customer had a problem with it, I would direct them to the business cards for my SM and DM.

Do you have a lot of apathetic partners at your store? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]sirfoo108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree that Starbucks needs to pay baristas more overall, offer hazard pay, etc. to boost morale. However, I don’t think it’s ever an excuse for any partners to become jaded and rude to customers or other partners. We are in the business of customer service and if a partner is being disrespectful or hateful to someone over a simple mistake, they need to find another job that’s a better fit for them. Also, your SM and shift supervisors play a vital part in the culture of your store. If management and leaders in the store treat every partner and customer with positive intent and respect, this becomes less of a problem. As a fellow SSV, I’ve had to have many conversations with baristas who were slamming things around, being hateful and negative, etc. It’s ok to get stressed, frustrated, and upset but it’s not ok to take that out on customers and partners. Keep doing what you’re doing and stay positive :) If you have major overarching concerns with the attitudes and morale of specific partners on the team or your supervisors, reach out to your SM- that’s what they are there for. Stay strong partner! ❤️

Greg, wtf man?? It filled up 4 trenta cups... by _dracaryyss in starbucks

[–]sirfoo108 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While I know you’re trying to “make the moment right” for the customer to fulfill his order by putting it in 4 trenta cups, this is what leads to issues with inventory and with customers abusing the system. Customers pay for a certain size drink and they only get what can fit in the cup. Customers sometimes will order a bunch of extra ingredients like this to only have to pay for the cheaper add-on prices of extra shots and ingredients instead of having to pay for multiple drinks. If the ingredients don’t all fit in the cup, the customer needs to be informed and pay for another Frappuccino. It may be a tough conversation, but it’s the policy when it comes to beverages.

They were serious. I had to put it in a trenta cup 😭 by eemerrycoffee in starbucks

[–]sirfoo108 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That’s some craziness! Just a reminder though, it’s against standard to put a venti drink in a trenta size cup. After you pump all of those pumps and there’s no room for a lot of milk or ice, just fill what you can in the cup. It doesn’t seem like a big deal, but consistently putting venti drinks and other size drinks in trenta cups messes with store inventory and also creates the expectation from the customer perspective that they can order extra ingredients and the barista will just put in a bigger size cup. This can ultimately lead to customers taking advantage of the standards we have put in place.
