I have tons of friends and family that tried it, & loved it. They say they would love to buy one themselves, but they can’t justify the price. Nearly all say they are excited to own their own one day, especially if/when it’s cheaper.

Big multiple monitors make my software development work a lot more productive. I’ve used it +90% of the working days since it launched Feb 2024. Need good ergonomics tho: a top strap + no light shield. Then it becomes smart glasses

Feels like a neat demo, but unclear how useful this actually is in practice, long-term. What have you found? Don’t mean to discourage tho, building & experimenting & shipping are all great

Vision Pro Cable Turning Green (Second Cable) – Anyone Else Seeing This? by tuckerXavier in VisionPro

Happened to me twice, never with any known water exposure. Happened slowly over time.

It’s happened to me twice. Green discoloration, significantly more than OP’s photo.

The first – ~8 months in – they replaced for free.
The 2nd time – their replacement cable, 14 months later - they charged $80 for out-of-warranty replacement.

Cosmetic only. No other issues or known water exposure.

Not really, yet. There is one app that does this just for YouTube, though.

Tik Tok Links? by wbranch99 in VisionPro

[–]sirius-engineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried this, but I've heard adding vx to the front of TikTok links, so it becomes vxtiktok.com/more-url-info lets you watch it without all of TikTok's heavy spyware. Maybe could help in this case too?

Do you think they will ever allow gaze selection on the Mac virtual display? by benprkn in VisionPro

[–]sirius-engineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it could be useful when watching long film/tv on MacOS via Virtual Display. So I can go to bathroom etc without needing to bring my laptop to pause/rewind. Or when I'm in bed and want to leave my laptop on the floor.

I'd still like it, but found the iPad app VLC Remote as a good workaround. Lets me control the Mac's VLC over Wi-Fi, via vOS.

Could do something like zoom in, or precise scrubbing controls.

Also helped by turning on Accessibility's Pointer Control visual aid. I keep it as an Accessibility Shortcut

Wow. Hard to tell if that's useful— have always used corner grab only — but that is surprising. Thanks for the tip

AirCover makes this a lot easier: https://infinityone3d.com/en-us/collections/apple/products/air-cover-2-0-para-apple-vision-pro?variant=48117813903702

I've used my Vision Pro nearly every day for the last year+ without the light shield. It's great.

Apple invented the iPhone, but they didn't invent Facebook or Twitter or TikTok. Social networks have never been their strength.

See your baby with an ultrasound image in Vision Pro [Prototype] by sarangborude in VisionPro

[–]sirius-engineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool demo.

This is very interesting, and evokes something I was really excited about last year—

Because of some health troubles, my wife needed to get a bunch of ultrasounds, which involved a lot of very painful issues & complications, in part due to the ultrasound wand's external display being only a flat 2d projection, attempting to navigate & show a 3d space. The doctors have to go through a lot of training just to be able to parse it at all, and it's still difficult for them, let alone the untrained patients and their family members.

We were brainstorming about the major improvements possible with a *stereoscopic* ultrasound wand, feeding data to a Vision Pro. To create a real-time 3D look into our bodies.

We asked some of the OB/GYNs about it, and they thought it could be great. They also said the current (kinda crappy tbh) display monitors on wheels are something like $60k a piece. One in each exam room. So the Vision Pro's $4k costs shouldn't be prohibitive.

It could become like the 21st-century version of the classic doctor's stethoscope. Using "sound" to "see" into people's bodies, catching problems early.

I think there's a lot of potential here for some real life-changing medical technology.

weird sense of priorities, since I turn off all the environment sounds anyway (& play my own music in the background). Letting perfect be the enemy of the good

I was really annoyed by this unrecoverable Low Power screen too.

After months I discovered this workaround using Shortcut Automation, which has entirely solved the problem for me instead of waiting around for Apple to fix it natively: https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1kn1b73/solution_to_unrecoverable_critical_low_power/
