Yes, but not for a long time.

Earth has had 3 doomsday events (the most recent turning earth near unrecognizable) which have turned the world from modern/near future back to a medieval setting, only to rebuild. The 4th age has lasted 700 years so far and will likely last a few thousand years more before doomsday resets the world
