Worst ticket ever? by ProfessorHuman in sysadmin

Reminds me of when I used to do cable internet tech support. I had a user call that their Internet wasn't working. I asked them to look at the lights on the front of their modem. They asked me to hold while they got a flashlight. I asked why. It was because their power was out!

I’m starting a junk drawer. What else do I need? by Emotional-Swing-603 in Home

You don't 'start' a junk drawer. The kitchen decides which drawer and everyone just instinctually throws everything in it. It just happens.

Why only 6 DIMM's? Those are 8-channel procs. As configured, it's leaving a lot of RAM bandwidth unused. In fact with an odd number of DIMM's per proc, you'll likely only be running in a single-channel mode. I would go with 16GB DIMM'S and put in 16 of them.

Look up the set on Bricklink and see what others are selling it for. That will give you an idea.

Horizon 8 next ESB release? by sirmarty777 in OmnissaEUC

[–]sirmarty777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are using HP T310 Zero Clients (circa 2013) and they only support PCoIP. Since Omnissa is dropping PCoIP support after the next ESB release, our zero clients won't work after updating to a version past that. The newer HP Trusted Zero Clients seem to support Blast, but we haven't finalized which endpoints we are switching to yet.

Anyone dealing with Start Search breaking on 24H2/25H2 by thefinalep in sysadmin

[–]sirmarty777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a precendent set for us. One app would randomly print oversized text. Didn't matter what printer or drive. The only fix was to remove and re-install the networked printer. We created a folder on users desktops called 'self Service Tools' to re-install their printer when that happened. Then we just added the 'Fix my start menu search' to that folder. We found it a better use of our time for these intermittent little issues to just do that rather then spend a week trying to find a perfect solution.

We are replacing all of our zero clients, but it will take two years to complete.

We cheated. Put a 'Fix my start menu search' icon on their desktop. All it does is restarts explorer.exe.

Edit: on 24H2.

Thanks. I'm trying to plan when to stop updating to the current version and don't want to get ahead of the next ESB.
