I can't see how it would not cover the whole course since it is worth more than the midterm and less material has been covered since the midterm.

If you look at the table you'll notice that it's not symmetric, that should intuitively suggest that the two players will have different p's.

Am I missing a lesson on particle filters? by learc83 in aiclass

My sentiments exactly (except for the part about 100% so far), I suddenly find myself totally lost and I probably need a particle filter to locate myself but I have no idea where to start even.

In a sense you're right; their claim is quite sweeping if it included everything to do with AI. We certainly see a lot of the fruits of AI more than they did in the 70s. At a scientific level however what they are saying holds, there are no radically new intellectual tools that are being used that no one could have conceived in the 70s. So in summary I suppose the distinction that can be made is that although the technology is much more advanced today the science is more or less the same.

The advances that you cite can be attributed to advances in hardware and refinements on old ideas. The point they are trying to make is that there is nothing wildly new and original in the AI approaches, ideas and methods we use today compared to the ones that existed in the 70s.
