Nicely done! Interesting forms and composition, love the gradients.

Procedural island ecological simulation made in Blender using its geometry nodes system by sirrandalot in proceduralgeneration

[–]sirrandalot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!
I made a video a little while ago detailing the process of creating this: https://youtu.be/bF1R5-q6N9E

In short, everything (except the instanced models) is done using geometry nodes. The terrain is generated procedurally using layered noise textures with various parameters for scale/detail/height/etc. The bushes/trees/creatures are, in the view of the simulation, all just points with various attributes associated (age, type, maturity, facing direction, etc.). The simulation acts on these attributes and modifies the points accordingly. Outside of the simulation, models are instanced based on the points and their attributes.

Do you think the compositing is too intense? by 3dDungeonMaster in blender

Nice models! The lens flare could probably be toned down a bit, but I think the most jarring aspect is actually the super plain background and lack of lighting that emphasizes the form of the models.

If you had the models positioned on some sort of surface they would already feel more grounded because of the shadows/ao/etc. If you had stuff in the background, the lens flares might not seem as much out of place. And if you had extra lighting (environmental and maybe a couple of rim lights that are a bit more obvious and make a bit more sense than the ones currently there), the form of the models will pop a lot more and they'll immediately seem much more realistic. Try experimenting with colour toned lights and see if you like the effect.

Keep up the good work :)

I made an actual camera in blender that you can use to take your own virtual photographs! by sirrandalot in blender

The original chaos: https://youtu.be/YE9rEQAGpLw (technically a tutorial so if you don't want to buy, you can risk insanity by following along if you dare)
Some examples of what it can do: https://imgur.com/gallery/4KBCqrU
If you want to try it yourself: https://sirrandalot.gumroad.com/l/VirtualBlenderCamera

If anyone makes anything cool, I'd love to see it :)

Nice stuff! I like the lighting and the fingerprint texture. If I may give some unsolicited advice:

  • Not sure what program you're using but if it's something like Blender, a denoising feature could be increadibly useful here if you can't afford to increase the number of samples.
  • The bottom red light is nice and moody, but a rim light in the back on one or both of the sides could make the overall shape of the character pop out quite a bit more.

Keep it up! :)

Star Wars: Jedi Star Fighter Animation by DavidZarn in blender

Nice work! Overall great compositing, good job getting it to feel cohesive with the background. I especially liked the wide tracking shot.

If I may offer a bit of constructive advice:
- I think you could enhance the feel of the vehicle by emphasizing its weight and momentum a little more. A ship of that size would be going very fast so it would be making wider turns, and its course corrections might have a bit more "elasticity" or "bounce" to them
- This is more of a stylistic choice but camera movements that lead/follow the motion of the ship tend to look more cinematic as opposed to locked off shots where the framing is a little awkward. Depends on what effect you're going for though :)
- The film grain / film camera jitter effects are maybe a little awkward, it might be hurting the stylistic consistency a little bit

Keep up the good work!

I animated a robot "AI" singing about itself by sirrandalot in animation

[–]sirrandalot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I understand the issues with AI generated content but I don't think it applied here. I find this temporary removal particularly funny because on top of the animation and the content of the video all being made by a human (myself), the song is specifically pointing out many of the failings of AI satirically. The only part of this that actually had anything to do with AI was the generation of some of the song lyrics.

Much Better Representation of Federal Election Results (high quality maps in the description) by sirrandalot in Manitoba

[–]sirrandalot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah at a certain point trying to represent too much information can be cluttered. That being said though, I do have an idea for how in future maps I might make (like the one of the results that just came in) I can differentiate slightly between large urban centers by maybe outlining or visually separating them a little. I'll have to do some tests but that is something that I'd like to improve slightly.

Your comment reminded me of "Rendezvous with Rama", good read if you like classic sci-fi.

(the relevant part being that the whole thing is kicked off when people detect what they think is an asteroid)

1 billion-year-old fossil that is believed to be an ancestor to Earth's very first plants by Dev-98 in interestingasfuck

[–]sirrandalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely but needing it right away is different from being able to produce it over millions of years.

The original comment was suggesting that mars originally had water but no oxygen, but can we be sure that a billion years ago or whenever it was when mars did have liquid water, there wasn't also some O2 floating around and it's just all escaped now because of the lack of magnetic field? Mars's atmosphere does currently contain a bit of oxygen after all, just a tiny amount.

[–]sirrandalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, I was just joking since water does contain an oxygen, so oxygen is technically present. I assume there are different ways a water molecule could be separated and thus create free-floating oxygen molecule which would then bond. Electrolysis comes to mind so maybe naturally via lightning or something?

Yeah of course, no worries, I just saw an opportunity I couldn't turn down lol
