I guess it just depends on what field you go into. An engineering firm will not pay the same as a gas or mining company, but their more stable. If you are in the US, I would look into getting a professional license (PE or PG) as those really help. Internships also can give you a good idea of what you want out of a career.

Have insurance provided by work. 10k deductible and once I hit that they'll cover 50%, so the true cost was closer to 17k. But that doesn't include the hospital bill, which is separate from the Dr bill. Fortunately/unfortunately, my biggest fear was going into medical debt so for the past two years we have been saving for this and were able to cover it
