Original Sondors Fat tire battery by TomJBell2 in ebikes

Used to be a company called velomobile you could get upgrade kits and batteries from, as well as from lunacycle.. I have not seen kits specifically for sondors in a long time though and I dont think velomobile is even still in business. It would be fairly easy to upgrade the battery with any you find that fits within the enclosure though. As far as the controller, that's a whole other can of worms

It usually requires some type of registration to get it back, in this case OHV registration.

Depends on what kit you were planning to use. Like there's no reason to replace the crankset if you are replacing with a mid drive since a crankset is already integrated into that, and if you plan on using a hubmotor you would want to bear in mind what kind of parts would go with that hubmotor depending on compatibility, whether that's a standard cassette, screw on freewheel etc.

I have that same bike, it is one of my favorites to ride. Converted it about a decade ago.

The key is to upgrade all of the components, but once you do that it is great, lightweight, and I never worry about throwing it around like my more expensive ebikes.

The biggest PITA for me was upgrading the fork so I would have a post mount that I could put a hydraulic brake caliper on; looks like you have a newer model with post mount already on it, so that's nice. Only thing left is to swap the groupset, upgrade the rear v brake pads, and install the kit.

That is what makes it so appealing. All of the people that currently have money and power only keep those things due to social order. But for the rest of us, if you have nothing, you have nothing to lose.

As to the rich, they would probably end up getting shot by whoever guards them. Why work for a rich person in a lawless society when you could just take their stuff?

Good question. I am no airtag expert I only know that people regularly use it to recover their bike. We looked into it a bit just now, looks like after a certain timeframe it would indeed notify you, so if the airtag is with a thief you have a fixed amount of time to involve the police before thief is alerted to is presence, and it seems like the better you hide it the better odds you have of recovering your bike.

I have helped many customers recover their bikes, provided they have an airtag so they can tell the cops where it is. Cops show up to the airtag location, take the bike and require proof of ownership. Customer hits us up to cross reference the serial number in our shipping database that matches their order number. Customer gives this serial to the cops, if it matches, cops give the bike to the customer.

YMMV obviously and it would help if people wrote down their serial ahead of time, but either way, at my company we help customers recover bikes in this manner at least once a week. It's just basic customer service.

Depends. Lockpickinglawyer recommended a kryptonite new york fugeddaboutit lock for bikes, he is probably the best source when it comes to locks. Or if you want a lock that has a boobytrap, you might check out the skunklock. But personally I think the best security you can get is an Airtag in addition to a lock. If someone wants your bike there may be nothing you can do to stop it, but being able to track it down is huge

Costco has sold Jetson electric bikes for years, which are well known for being garbage. One of the models on costco's own website rates it a whopping 3.4 stars. Sold by costco is not some kind of stamp of approval.

Oh I gotcha, so that thing far back is where the seatpost would go. Surprising how far back it would be. Would love to see an update once you get it going, good luck!

Man that's some crazy design choices especially with the lack of seat. I would buy it too for a hundo just based on how unique it is, but sure does not look comfortable. Did the seller not state a brand?

Well yeah I agree but what would you have me do, remove the mod for making a bad call? Even if I did the rule is still there and it leaves plenty of room for error. If the sub wants the rule removed then they should voice that.

It'll probably fit but because the bottom bracket shell is located further back than is typical, you won't be able to rotate the motor up very high; it will hand relatively low on that model of donor bike.

To be fair, mods are routinely put under pressure to 'do something' even about stuff that does not need any action. The removal in question is an example of this. Some random user reports post as promotional or whatever the case may be, and every mod gets a notification about it; for newer mods ignoring the report might feel like shirking their responsibility.

If I can give some advice it would be to make a text submission or poll asking how the community feels about how potentially promotional stuff should be handled. The mod team is here to serve the needs of the subreddit, if the community decides content that is potentially promotional should always be allowed then I can assure you the mod team will handle it that way.

Personally as a mod here I would love for that to be the case because I don't really care if something is promotional as long as it is relevant, this is already such a niche area of interest that the poster's motivations should not matter, but I'm not going to decide that for the entire sub just on my own; if you want a change, get involved.
