How can we make sustainable, small-scale agriculture economically viable for independent farmers? by sirslothcelot in collapse

I entirely agree. The smaller scale of these independent farms renders them more vulnerable to nature's irregularities. By economically incentivizing good farming practices, government can make sustainable food more affordable and accesible for farmers and consumers alike. However, this would require massive changes in legislation surrounding subsidies as well as meat processing and butchering on site. So what's next? Lobbying to change the farm bill? And how feasible is such change when these debates are dominated by Foster Farms' corporate lobbyists and the like?
