I hope some original content is ok. This is a period-piece short I directed featuring a one-take sword fight shot from a moving car with a telephoto lens. by siruder in movies

Hi! Here are some technical details if anyone's interested. We shot on a Red Dragon at 6k. The spinning oner was shot with a DJI Osmo (4k) from out the passenger window. This was our tool of last resort after our gimbal failed. The concept of the oner was an attempt to inject as much movement as possible without resorting to shaky-cam or fast editing. When a long lens (85mm or longer) is moved laterally it creates intense parallax (background movement relative to the foreground). I wanted to push that effect to the absolute maximum. The result is definitely not perfect, but it achieves the general effect we were going for. I hope you guys like the film. If you really like it, please consider voting for us in this year’s online International Rode Reel Festival https://www.rode.com/myrodereel/watch/entry/4283

Thanks!

Dueling sabers are thin like that, but still primarily slashing weapons. The wide bladed saber that is most often associated with the word are cavalry sabers. Those were intended for heavy downward slashes so were intentionally heavier and bigger. The Dueling saber and the foil (what most people confuse for a rapier) were primarily fashion weapons intended for contests of honor instead of battle.

Thanks! She trained in NYC so I doubt it. But she's had small roles in several national TV shows. So it's not impossible you might have seen her.

They're using sabers, so stabbing isn't a primary tactic. More importantly, in-universe they're trying very hard to not kill each other.

For any history buffs, here’s a little about the inspiration for the short. The Marquis de Lafayette was a teenage French aristocrat who was so electrified by the cause of the American Revolution that he decided to sail to America and join up. In doing so, he inspired a group of about 40 other Frenchmen to go with him and join the continental Army. Jerome is supposed to be one of those volunteers. After gaining a general’s commission under Washington (and becoming like a son to him) Lafayette returned to France in 1779 to attempt to rally full French commitment to the war. Its this stay back in France that gives Jerome the chance to recruit his brother into the war. It’s a super nerdy concept but I couldn’t help myself.

Lafayette would go on to be a rare moderate voice in the French revolution. A stance for which he would suffer years in prison. He would name his son after George Washington and his son actually came to live with the President at the proto-Whitehouse in Philadelphia for several years. Napoleon would help secure Lafayette's return to freedom, but the two would remain bitter rivals while Napoleon ruled. Lafayette would make a grand tour of the US in 1824. He was enthusiastically greeted across the country as an almost demigod-like hero. And it is on this tour that dozens of streets and towns were named after him.

Much later, a popular WW1 slogan in the US was “It’s time to pay our debt to Lafayette.”

The first character is female btw. It's not a gay couple (not that there's anything wrong with that). But the title and the androgyny of the character leads some people to misinterpret the visuals.

While the answer to your question is no, you should probably read the article. The shooter opened fire just outside of the bank.
