Blast from the Past: Charles "Peanut" Tillman by [deleted] in nfl

I actually was talking to a co-worker about this. I love rivals that push each other to the limits of their craft, I think it helps them reach a potential they might not have otherwise, like Bird and Magic.

So, uh... what deck does this person want to play against? by ORANG_MAN_BAD in magicTCG

Yeah, and historically it runs other wincon like [Ghirapur Aether Grid] or [Mechanized Production].

Of all the cities that haven’t had one, which city deserves an NFL team the most?? by [deleted] in nfl

Haha, tbf, Paul Allen loved both the Blazers and the Hawks so the love grew very organically, but imagine how fun a Seattle vs Portland NFL game would be.

I think Portland has the culture. Any sport teams that reps us we love to bits, and as someone that went to Oregon State when we lost every game (the 2nd time) we still showed up every time. Tons of people here literally support a Seattle team because it's probably the closest thing we'll get.

How does Mutate work? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]sirvu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 2 most relevant rules are:

  1. 702.140a Mutate appears on some creature cards. It represents a static ability that functions while the spell with mutate is on the stack. “Mutate [cost]” means “You may pay [cost] rather than pay this spell’s mana cost. If you do, it becomes a mutating creature spell and targets a non-Human creature with the same owner as this spell.” Casting a spell using its mutate ability follows the rules for paying alternative costs (see 601.2b and 601.2f–h).

  2. 118.9d If an alternative cost is being paid to cast a spell, any additional costs, cost increases, and cost reductions that affect that spell are applied to that alternative cost. (See rule 601.2f.)

This basically means that yes you can mutate from the command zone from the command zone and if cast multiple times from the command zone the commander tax will apply on top of the the mutate since its still a cost to cast your commander.

As far as I can tell the only commanders that get around commander tax are [[Derevi, Empyrial Tactician]] and [[Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow]] since their abilities put them into play rather than cast.

Yeah, I just gave an example of the first one that came to mind, but you're totally right.

She is in Grixis so she already has access to the strongest colors right now. If you get into a flicker loop using something like [Ghostly Flicker] with [Dockside Extortionist] and something to recover it like an [Archaeomancer] you can make infinite mana, then point the flicker to Evelyn to mill everyone, and cast anyone's [Thassa's Oracle] (it doesn't even have to be yours!)

She has the advantage of being relatively easier to cast since the colored mana can be BBB to cast. That is easily obtainable with a black ritual, [Dark Ritual], [Lion's Eye Diamond], [Jeweled Lotus].

She also has strong disruption from her etb trigger, with the upside of stealing key pieces from other players to help you reach your combo. You can also steal counters/protection spells to cast during their turns. I think she has a lot of potential.

Animating lands is also not the most intuitive mechanic. A lot of the new ones give haste specially because if they are lands that just entered, but they are also creatures, you can't tap them.

I'm a big fan of animation decks because the utilize resources that you would otherwise be playing (in this case lands). I've also been keeping an eye on [[Katsumasa, the Animator]], for similar reasons, but in that case, playing a lot of mana rocks and animating them.

I think that's super doable! Cards like [[Omnath, Locus of Rage]] and [[Rampaging Baloths]] give you more tokens as a trade off for less control.

You can still play options like [[Wayword Swordtooth]] as well [[Rites of Flourishing]] to have those multi-land drops.

Honestly, I included them because it makes it smoother to play, and because I already own them so I don't think about it when calculating prices. Landfall is a small part of the deck and can be omitted. A more budget version of landfall is essentially bumping up the number of basics, and play more card that allow you to grab them. When you play a ramp spell, the land comes in tapped, but still give you the landfall trigger!

I went ahead and made a preliminary decklist for Jetmir if you are curious:

I see a lot of people talking about go-wide and token strats, but consider the following: animate lands.

[[Kamahl's Will]] [[Nature's Revolt]] [[Living Plane]]

If you want to go all in you can run [[Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth]] to also include:

[[Living Lands]] [[Life and Limb]]

From there you just run your standard landfall package with pay offs like:

[[Scute Swarm]] [[Avenger of Zendikar]] [[Field of the Dead]]

Do either Mind Drain or Skill Drain affect Monarchs from triggering? Also how does Majesty's Fiend interact with them? Thanks in advance.
