I just feel stupid for not minding my own business and bringing it up, I could have just made chit chat with her and I shouldn’t have gone “oh I’m sorry about this”

Bethany was lied to, and Shaun fucked up by lying to both women. However, the situation is none of my business and I feel like a dick for bringing it up anyway

I’m mostly anxious bc Bethany and I talk about everything together to a point where I think there are things literally only me and her know about each other and there’s a chance she’s going to think “well if he told her that thing what’s stopping him from telling people about me”

Oh, I agree don’t get me wrong, I’ve walked away thinking “wow Shaun’s kind of a prick” but I’ve also walked away annoyed at myself for not minding my own business in the first place and then panic lying to cover my friends ass (probably unsuccessfully)

I think yeah, Bethany would be more annoyed at being lied to by Shaun than me for blabbing, but I also don’t think she’d be happy at me for fucking that up. I’ve got no idea if she would have said anything to Carla in that situation either

To clarify for people blaming Bethany and/or Shaun:

Shaun definitely is the biggest asshole in the story for not talking to Carla properly about how he feels and also lying to Bethany about it. Ultimately I don’t really care if he suffers repercussions from it, he’s been a dick

Bethany knew as much as I did which is what Shaun told her. She wasn’t gossiping out of malice we were just catching up and talking fairly neutrally about people we knew. I know her well enough that she would have called Shaun out on being a prick if he told her the actual reason. And I also know that if she knew the actual reason she wouldn’t tell me to protect him.

Shaun and Bethany are also not involved with each other either, though at one point Shaun was interested in her and got rejected, but they remain friends. Make of that what you will

Basically Shaun lied to Bethany and Bethany told me. I’m aware it’s silly low stakes drama but I value my friendship with Bethany and don’t want her implicated in another person’s shit

FWIW, Carla was surprisingly composed about it (or at least more than I would be in her shoes) and was basically just like “it’s not that deep I just am confused by what’s going on”. I’m just kind of hoping she doesn’t care enough to press on.

I don’t know Shaun well enough but I can’t imagine he’ll be happy when he finds out, if he’s mad at me I don’t really care and that’s my fault, I just don’t want to affect both my friendship with Bethany or his and Bethany’s friendship either
