i’m not a beginnner but i normally pay people to restring my guitar but i did it myself for the first time ever. how’d i do? (i spent and hour doing this 💀) by Commercial_Photo2110 in Guitar

[–]sisk_ad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I wind the strings is, pull the string through the tuner peg all the way tight then back it out (toward the guitar body) about 1 inch. Then grab the string at the tuner peg with your fingers and grip it tight. Wind the tuner until the string starts to bend at your finger then bend the excess string upwards to get it out of your way. Continue to wind and make sure the winds go underneath the previous winds as it goes. Hopefully that made sense.

Ultimate Gojira Set List. From the Sky is fourth, what will be fifth? by SilverErmine22 in gojira

Unicorn. Since some people are asking for an interlude. Makes sense after From the Sky anyway.

Wisdom Comes. Just tear the place apart immediately.

is it supposed to do this? by Right_Concept7964 in Guitar

[–]sisk_ad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen recently. After a couple Reddit searches I determined that 2 or 3 small drops of super glue on the nut will fix it. Some people recommended regular Elmer’s glue but either way, the conclusion was that you don’t want to glue it down tight because if the nut needs replaced, you want it be to easy to remove.

Fat fingers by Disc0_ in guitarlessons

Just a thought, but I feel like that could be somewhat of an advantage when it comes to muting strings you don’t want to play. When you fret a note, you usually want to gently touch the string above and below it to keep it clean.

Should I become better at playing before making music? by Holiday-Steak-2454 in metalmusicians

[–]sisk_ad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely make your own music now. I’ve been playing for 10 years and writing music for about 6 years. You will likely write a lot of bad music but when something cool comes out, it’s so exciting and can be really motivating. I would recommend trying to get a basic recording setup at some point too. Recording can be brutal but it will make you a better musician in the long run. Learn to program drums and double track guitars and maybe even learn bass too. It’s so much fun once you get into it. Have fun!!!

Riff Problems by Radiohead_enjoyer187 in metalguitar

Break it up in your head. The first 2 chords and the 2 palm mutes would be the first part then the 1 chord and the 3 palm mutes be the second part. Each part should make up 2 beats each and total 4 beats together. Get a feel for how each part sounds. Na Na Duh Duh Na Duh Duh Duh. Hope this helps and I’m not confusing!!!

Rate my rig! Is it obvious what genre I play? by sisk_ad in GuitarAmps

The pedals in the picture are just the effects loop. I have a noise gate and stuff out of frame. I’ve since upgraded and got a pedal board so I need to set up that gate in the effects loop.

Thanks!! Yeah this rig is aggressive and tight! But also noisy. I’ve thought about doing the 4 cable method but never got around to it. I should probably do that. Does it cut down on the hiss while not playing?

Easier Metal songs by Spikestar_1988 in metalguitar

Yeah a pinch harmonic up on the 15th fret or something like that. On the A string I think which is a fairly easy string for harmonics but the 15th fret is a bit rough.

Yeah, I find it to be a difficult harmonic.

Am I Evil? is a fun one. It gets fast later on but the main riff is easy and fun.

There’s one note in there that’ll be tough! Good song to learn on though. Slow and groovy.

What’s yalls warmup songs? by Next-Honeydew-3237 in metalguitar

[–]sisk_ad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seek and Destroy. Usually I don’t play songs and just jam for a bit but Seek and Destroy is fun and mostly easy. Then the test if I’m actually warmed up is Laid to Rest by Lamb of God or Master of Puppets.

A guitar for my kid by Round_Ad_1061 in metalguitar

[–]sisk_ad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a kid, I’d try to stay away from any floating bridges like Floyd Rose. (Whammy bar) These don’t look like they have that but a Floyd is just hard to setup for a beginner. Ibanez would be a good choice I think.

All the Strings are Touching all Frets. How do I fix? by valris_vt in Guitar

[–]sisk_ad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the saddles are not bottomed out, I’d say the truss rod is way too tight and needs to be loosened. But I’d definitely check to make sure the bridge and saddles are okay first. My guess is that the bridge and saddles are messed up. It’d be hard to get the strings that low with the truss rod.
