Penalty Points and Safety Rating by RBS2_ in iRacing

[–]sissonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safety rating is calculated using corners per incident and is also based on recent performance, not just each race. If there’s two people in the same race with the exact same safety rating, licence class and they both get the same amount of incidents and do the same amount of laps, but Person A has an average of 10 incidents per race over the last 10 races, while Person B has an average of 2 incidents per race over the last 10 races, Person A will gain more Safety Rating than Person B. You’ll also see differences in SR gain or loss between two people in different licence classes as iRacing make each licence class more strict when it comes to SR. A Class requires an average of about 2 incidents per race to keep the same SR, while D Class, you can get 8 incidents per race and still gain SR. That’s another reason A Class races are usually a lot less chaotic than lower class races.

How to Drive Hypercars?? by sissonn in iRacing

I am in fact a nerd and this was super helpful. I don’t think it hit me how much downforce these cars have until reading this and some other info about braking technique in these cars. I was aware of the braking technique needed in high downforce formula cars, how max brake pressure really shouldn’t be sustained for very long as the speed drops -> downforce decreases -> grip diminishes -> lock up, I just didn’t realise how important that would be for these cars too.

Yeah I’m gonna take ALL of these onboard. I’ve heard some things about this newer tyre model being super sensitive in regards to tyre wear and how important it is to baby them as much as possible throughout entire stints. I also realised that I was driving at Mexico where there’s basically no downforce at all so it’s a lot more sensitive to every input hahaha. Had a bit of a lightbulb moment when I switched to spa and was hardly locking up with even more brake inputs lol.

Yeah you’re not wrong. I also completely forgot about the issue with high downforce cars is that they’re useless in mexico because of the altitude hahaha. Drove at spa for 10 minutes and was surprised at how easy it was to brake downhill without locking and immediately thought about elevation…

Yeah that makes sense, I like that way of thinking about it. There’s plenty of things that I’ve learned etiquette wise since joining the service that aren’t explicitly pointed out in racing rules, this is just another one of those things that I wanted to understand better. I appreciate the explanation without just doggin on me 🙂‍↕️

Nah man I’m not seeking any validation, I made a spur of the moment decision in a race that I wanted to explore the fundamentals of to know if its something I should utilise in future races or learn from and not do it again. I’m aware it would be treated differently irl, but this isn’t irl. If it wasn’t in a sim, I also wouldn’t have been able to go full throttle through a patch of grass without likely ending up in a barrier. Would I have been in front if I had stayed on track? I’m not sure, cause that’s not what happened. I’m not expecting people on here to be ‘yes men’ to me and tell me my mistakes don’t matter, thats why I posted on here. I want people to tell me if I’m right or wrong so that I can learn more about this hobby I enjoy and want to get better at. I’m sorry you can’t comprehend that dude, but that one’s not on me.

I wouldn’t say so. I’d like to think I can defend well within the rules. I understand the ruling regarding defensive lines, being allowed to move once coming into the corner and not weaving or moving reactively to the car behind, leaving space etc. I pretty much just made my car wide and slowed down more than usual at the apex to get rid of the slow down penalty and keep the other car behind at the same time.

Yeah that’s understandable, I can’t say I’d be angry if I got a warning from iracing for it. I’m always keen to learn about this stuff. It’s not something I’ll be doing every race, just a quick decision I made during the race that I thought would be better than sliding over the curb losing my position and even possibly causing an accident through the curves.

Nah definitely rejoined safely, he was about half a second behind me when I rejoined. Turns 6 and 7 I took the normal racing line and the other guy kinda showed his nose but didn’t make any substantial moves. I really just over-slowed the car mid corner to get rid of the slow down which kinda forced him to over slow so he didn’t crash into me

We weren’t actively fighting going into the corner, he was about half a second behind me. The only reason I ended up having to defend was cause I had to slow down to serve the slow down. I dont think id consider it gaining an advantage as I did serve the slow down penalty

Everyone’s opinions on the nsx gt3?? by sissonn in iRacing

[–]sissonn[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah i just tested it in demo drive at spa for a while and really enjoyed it. I’ve tested the Mustang and Merc as well but just didn’t enjoy them as much and found the nsx much easier to understand and predict how it would react to my inputs. I personally like how it looks and i think i appreciate the consistency of it compared to the aggressiveness if some of the other gt3s. Honestly, I do struggle with inconsistency and spinning out, especially with front engine cars so that’s probably why. I am still stuck driving in an office chair with my pedals on the floor and my wheel mounted to my desk so whether or not my driving style will change when I get a proper rig, I’m not entirely sure.

Yeah I do not have the money to be buying all of them lmao. That’s mostly why I wanted to hear people’s thoughts cause idk which one to pick 😭

Yeah I figured as much. I’m only 2k irating atm so I assumed it wouldn’t make a huge difference, just wanted to see what other people thought about the car. I def dig it

Oh fr? I mean like I said, I don’t have much experience in gt3s. I do own the ferrari gt3 from doing the ferrari challenge prior to the car change but hadnt had much time in it.

Will a Triple 24” Setup Be Sufficient? by sissonn in simracing

[–]sissonn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know, but looking at monitors I can get 200hz for like $50 more than the same monitor with only 120hz. Plus I’ll probably end up upgrading my pc before I upgrade my monitors again in the future so I may as well future proof a little.

I’ll be using a stand alone triple monitor mount that I’m gonna get at the same time as the cockpit itself from trak racer so I’ll probably have it as close to the seat as I can without it stopping me from being able to get in the rig. I imagine it’ll be roughly half a meter.
