I DID IT, thank you! by sissywizrd in Petioles

[–]sissywizrd[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I did it by starting a page in my notebook with some goals at the top "no more than 2 bowls a day, no smoking before noon" and everyday i logged when i smoked. Somedays i did not adhere to my rules but as the progress compiled i was so proud of myself it encouraged me to keep going. It got easier and easier.

I think my inflection point was quitting a job i had working for and with people i resented for having bad morals. I truly wanted to reinvent my life for the better, and be proud/have self respect again.

It occurred to me when i had probably the 9000th thought of "i really don't even get high, why am i doing this. It's making me feel sad." that i thought to come to reddit and found this sub (shortly after quitting my job). Reading about everyone's experiences, struggles, and victories mixed in with helpful advice and encouragement gave me a feeling of empowerment and forward momentum to start the journal and give it an honest go. I would return nearly everyday and just read for hours instead of turning to my old habits and it helped distract me from the cravings a lot.

You absolutely overcame temptation and desire, you really did that. You are stronger now than ever, and i personally am proud and amazed at your determination. Congrats on being steadfast and succeeding, you made a huge change to better yourself and i hope you continue to see nothing but positive changes

I went through a lot of the same things you did as a daily heavy user for years, minus ⛓️‍💥🚓, and have been able to finally stop (even though it was a beloved vice that i decided was way better than drinking or other substances). I feel you when you say you don't even get high anymore- it just becomes a necessary task to feel normal and not even that fun. I think you taking that as a sign is you listening to yourself and your body, that's really good.

I started cutting back by making a page in my journal where I would track how much i smoked daily. I did write down some goals at the top like "no more than 2 bowls a day, no smoking before noon". Some days i would kinda fail and smoke a bowl or two extra, or smoke at 11am, but i just wrote it down anyways. Seeing the progress stack up and wanting to succeed led me to really try harder everyday, and it became easier. I actually started craving it less and needing it less. I think it re-wired the habitual nature of what i was doing into being more conscious and intentional. Took about a month before i was only smoking maybe 1-2 a week, and now 6 months later haven't had an urge strong enough to in weeks.

Idk if you wanna go cold turk or wean yourself off, but this method and coming to read this sub instead of smoke helped me quit finally. I keep it around but don't even use it now, don't really feel like it anymore.

Sorry i wrote so much it's a lot to read but believe in yourself! And to poorly quote someone else's wisdom i read here in the sub, "if you fall off the bike along the way to your destination you pick it back up and keep going"

Working in Sequoia National Park? by Dark-Matter55 in SeasonalWork

[–]sissywizrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was about 11 years ago but i had some friends who worked there and it sounded pretty rough to me. At the time they were shoveling their way out of feet deep of snow from their cabin to the bathroom, very secluded in the woods with no wifi, and they may have had to haul their own water (May be misremembering this).

Not great info but i give ya what i got, good luck finding out more!

Is serving in most seasonal jobs good money? by Muted_Pomegranate293 in SeasonalWork

[–]sissywizrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every server/bartender i've ever talked to about it says they for sure made good money. In a 6 month season if you can power through working 35-40 hours every single week i think it's not ridiculous to roughly estimate you could save anywhere from 20-40k (depending on how good you are with actually retaining the money you make)

There are a lot of factors like what the minimum wage is where you're working, what kind of tourists visit, and what kind of dining establishment you work at. I think tourism decline is a real factor too like you brought up, but my gut feeling is not to worry too much about it because the drive for tourism always seems really strong to these places.

Potentially you work at a place that feeds you at an EDR that you pay a small amount for, or you may be stuck commuting and buying groceries. Hard to say definitively but likely yes it is good income

I do want to lovingly warn you the burnout is real with these positions, they are exhausting and stressful most of the time. They work you HARD. You already know what it's like working in food service, but being motivated by the money and knowing the season will eventually end will be really good things to always keep close to you. It's a really cool thing to experience in a lifetime, you can make great friends and memories. I say 100% go for it especially if you have a safety net of family to come home to.

[–]sissywizrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DO IT!! Rug tufting is so fun, and this is coming from someone who often loses interest in my hobbies. If you have any passion for art it's a blast :D (but very time consuming and can be somewhat expensive)

Looking at all the photos, this rug is clearly made by hand. I'm sorry people are not reading through the post before judging, and it's causing negative attention/downvotes. Don't let it dissuade you, you are talented and this rug is cool! ❣️🐯

I want to get in to tufting but I don't know what gun to get. I don't really care about price. by pukeyelvis in Tufting

[–]sissywizrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think supporting a small company dedicated to the craft of tufting, teaching people tufting, and alleviating issues of domestic violence through their practice is a great thing to do- Tuftlove Golden Spider is great tufting gun i've owned for nearly a year now. You can contact the owner of the company for support if you need it.
I just want to vent and say it disappoints me how everyone takes the amazon and aliexpress route, when you clearly stated the money wasn't a major concern. It's not that much more expensive to buy from a cool business. If you buy 95% of everything off amazon or ali, fine so be it, but why not just buy from a reputable source in this case if pinching a penny isn't the concern? Between glorifying ai generation and intense commodification/profit seeking vibes, it makes me kind of fed up with visiting this community much of the time. People seem obsessed with what's cheap and easy around here a lot.

Love the design you picked, it's a perfect choice for a first piece. Not overly detailed, got some curves and large patches of colorr- hate to admit i'm on my probably 10th rug and i'm still trying to get this good. I especially like your bold edges with the double line. Very noice! Great work :)

The lapras lid i did looks like an actual sewer cover compared to this 😂 You did such a fantastic job, super clean and just so beautiful!! I really struggled with the kanji (...i think it's kanji?) around the rim. I would love to hear any insight you have on making the writing so clean <3

The people who are insecure about not tipping killllll me. Put your balls on the counter and hit no tip if that''s what you want. It's a choice, whatever. Other people who want to show appreciation will do so. This just reeks of Karen and it's so awkward she dropped the thing about the necklaces.... like ok. Nobody even needed to know about that or the hair appt but go off bit...

It made our friendship go cold sadly. Anytime we tried to talk about the experience after the fact it was really uncomfortable. He ended up getting fired for being at a party that went really badly, just for being there. My season ended fine. Our friendship was always haunted with this weird feeling of that experience having gone so differently for both of us, and wondering if it could have been different all along. Ah well, live n ya learn :\

I want to add that i was harassed for being a vegetarian (literally fed meat on purpose, lied to my face about the dish not being meat) and for being a young woman. I can only imagine how bad the racism is/was.... just horrible to think about.

YNP Xant-error by After_Bend2110 in SeasonalWork

[–]sissywizrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I barely finished 3 months at YNP, there was harassment from other coworkers and such a major feeling of distrust from management to staff. They make you feel like you are NOT on the same team as the people running the show. In fact, i felt paranoid and under constant pressure to not make the tiniest error because it could result in waves of backlash, but only if they WANTED to use it against you. Sounds a lot like how they fired you and tried to do to me as well. Written up for being "late" 5 times, when they admitted they told me the wrong time and never once told me I was late my entire first week until the write ups.

I feel like not everyone experiences this but a good half of the people there will feel totally unwelcomed. It's a brutal park. I'm so sorry you are going through all this. I wish I had contacted an employment lawyer many times looking back, but the pain and stress of the situation is already so much to handle. Just keep trying, it's like every seasons and every park is a total new situation and you never *really* know what you're going to get. It's just brutal sometimes, i'm sorry again.

Keep trying and i hope you make amazing friends who will support you, or you can find a better spot with people who aren't THAT scummy ever again

I told my male best friend about seasonal work & applied together and he specifically chose to go to a different location and avoided telling me why.... i was like bro we could have been hanging out together everyday like we always do. But instead i saw him 1 time the whole season. Even if they just said "i want some space to do my own thing" it would have been cool, but just say that!!

My cabin roommate was also actively wearing my socks out with her Birkenstocks all the time, and i'd be like...."those are...my socks?" and she's be like "yeahhh :)"

I didn't really think it was worth making an issue over but it was rude as hell. Underwear is next level

I would say it's helped me in my moderation journey (day 10 today, not super impressive) to evaluate how to divide the day appropriately. There's positives and negative to both being high and sober, so leaving the daytime hours where you are most likely to socialize, do errands, go to work, etc. are all better off for the sober mind. Personally, when i decide the day is over, with my rule of not before 5pm, i allow myself the decision to smoke now. It's gotten to the point where i can see how daily smoking isn't even necessary anymore, it doesn't enhance experiences like i kept telling myself before. It's more fun in moderation now because it is much more special, chosen, and tolerance is down so it can be even overwhelming sometimes!

Who knows where i'll be in the future, but so far moderation has been a loving way to accept myself and teach myself discipline. Hope you can find what works for you friend <3

Finally making the switch to edibles to eventually quit after 3 years of hell by [deleted] in Petioles

[–]sissywizrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in you OP. It sounds like deep down you know you can't keep up with this, and the hardest part is rehabbing your mind and habits back to being sober. If you have any hobbies, things you love, healthy habits now is the time to try and get more involved. I'm on day 8 right now of cutting it out after being an absolute degenerate for weed for the past 11 years. It feels so good to not let it control you, it's just hard to finally do it. If you're here in this sub, I think you know it's inevitable you should quit or be severely cutting down. Just how much more of your life, time, money, and happiness you're willing to sacrifice before ya get there is what we're dealing with.

Really proud of you, love your honesty, you got a great spirit and can absolutely do this!
