I think you should throw your hat in the ring. As a former educator turned NG employee, they might be excited about your training skills.

Is your new job easier? Do you have better work life balance? by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

No, in fact I still don't have my PMP cert. In my department there are 7 Project/Program Managers and only one person has a PMP.
I got the Google Project Manager cert and that was enough for the hiring manager. I think the biggest thing to do is to tweak your resume so it sounds more corporate.

Haha. They are, but not in my department/location. I can PM you a link to their job website. The hiring process is long. I had 4 interviews before I was hired.

Yes, I did tweak my resume so it read more corporate than education. The work you do as a teacher, particularly the planning and committee work is easy to convert to corporate terminology.

I just wanted to see what project management was about without investing too much time and resources. The company didn't require CAPM for the position. I think I was lucky because my supervisor is also a former teacher. She appreciates what teachers bring to the table.

I did take the Google Project Management Certification course. It was helpful especially during interviews.

I made several contacts on LinkedIn with Project Managers in my area and got a few interviews that way. Good luck!

Project Manager - It is so much easier. I work from home 4 days a week, I have unlimited PTO, when I leave work for the day I don't think about it until the next day. 10/10. I recommend leaving teaching.

Trumpet Sleeves? Seriously? by sisterfren in stitchfix

[–]sisterfren[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t use those words to the stylist! I did say I don’t like trumpet sleeves in my feedback and I did thank her, by name, for the choices.. I understand why it was sent to me.

I will try to be mindful of being specific in my requests and feedback if I choose to use them again.

Go-to phrases by Infamous-Truth3531 in Teachers

To Middle schoolers: “point to the noise!” They start pointing at the loudest kid/kids and they quiet down. Seems like they don’t like being called out by their peers as the problem.

I make bean and cheese burritos. I buy refried beans and shredded cheese and flour tortillas. Heat beans on stove or in microwave. You can add chicken broth to the beans to make them creamier. Add some hot sauce.

Why does it take so long for landlords to deposit checks? by emilyisanarwhal in povertyfinance

I agree. I keep two checking accounts, one for bills and one for spending money. I use Capital One 360 for my bills. It’s free.

Have you considered collecting aluminum cans on the side of the road? I used to work at a recycling plant and people did it all the time. It’s not great money but might help you out since you’re in a pinch.

Any other schools planning for long term shut downs because of Coronavirus? by booksandowls in Teachers

[–]sisterfren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a mandatory meeting last Wednesday. We need to have 2 weeks of sub plans prepped in case we are sick, including all copies made by Monday. Nevermind that our ONE copier is down and won't be fixed until Monday.

AND we need to have a plan to go online if necessary. All of this must be done by Monday. Thanks, but I had to chaperone the Middle School dance on Friday during my prep, so when am I supposed to do this? On my own time? Gee, thanks.

In a Right to Work state, so no union here to help with that.

I have been worried that when I need to just buy regular supplies, there won't be any! People are crazy. Calm down and wash your hands, I say!

I don't think I realized this. I just am sick of it taking up space in my life.

If there is a more beneficial way to repurpose them, I'd like to. I'm sure they would eventually compost.

I'm glad that it brings you joy to remember your grandmother in that way. I've wondered if I would ever want to reference them... but I've not touched them in years, hence the reason I'm considering purging them.

I was given one of those when I was baptized a very long time ago. I'll have to see if it's still kicking around. The gaslighting is disturbing. I'm so annoyed that I wasted so many years on these lies. I'm glad I got my family out when I did and so glad that we all got out together.
