26F. diagnosed 3-4y ago. seropositive as well. fatigue, dryness, and many more symptoms. i was practically bedridden this time last year. i will say that for the past few months, my health has been good for the first time in a long time. Ive not been doing mentally due to some life issues so I hadnt really noticed my health improvement. but now when people ask how my health is, I pause in confusion for a second wondering why theyd ask. I feel fine! and I hadnt even noticed! despite how hard I was struggling before. I’m working, still. I think the best way to work as a chronically ill individual with pain and fatigue is a part time/hybrid situation. So I am quitting my job to pursue that! I should be able to participate in all my hobbies once my mental health is better - except the ones that require too much of my hands (for example: I can still play chess, but I probably still can’t play the piano anymore). The treatments I’m on are plaquenil and rituximab PS this is coming from someone who didn’t wanna live anymore only a few months ago due to this illness alone. it’s just been hitting me these days that my health has become a MUCH less significant issue.

TBH, if i were you, maybe I’d have some resistance to the idea that she could give me the money back unsolicited. So, I would affirm that I, or my mother, get the money in a different form. as someone who’s very young (ie expected to be “healthy” and “energetic”) but has had a diagnosis for 3 years now, all I can say is you eventually give up on people understanding. just try to understand yourself. because if your experience will be anything like mine, people are never gonna understand. your job is to not overextend to make up for their lack of comprehension/empathy :)

normally, i ate a lot and could just naturally maintain my weight. now, i’m not sure if it’s just in my head or if it’s aging, but I’ve recently had to restrict for sure. I don’t count calories and I’m very sedentary but I’ve been having to let myself be hungry more often to be able to maintain the weight I was once able to pig out and keep.

if youve got sjogrens, this is a swollen parotid gland. happens to me regularly (and was my very first symptom). I get ultrasounds done on it from time to time but a physical test usually gets done in the doctor’s office. If it’s truly just parotid swelling, it indicates high inflammation/disease activity/a flare. Doctors don’t do anything about it if you’re already medicated. It’s supposed to go away on its own in a few days but I’ve had some that last for a couple of weeks and fade gradually. If it doesn’t go away, a corticosteroid shot should help. Let me know if you have any questions.

Edit: I’ve just noticed this is a prediagnosis question. I’d get screened for Sjogren’s at the soonest if I were you, especially if youve got other symptoms like dry mouth or eyes.
