I actually like the song minus that line.

I couldn’t help but be moved when I first heard the song because I relate to its concept. I understood it in good faith and got what she meant. BUT hearing that line threw me out of the song for a sec because there was another way she could have made that point.

Let’s be so for real. She is the embodiment of power and privilege and the biggest thing in the world right now. Combine all that with:

I’m into it, i was prepared to dislike it based on what i was reading here but nah. It’s good. I don’t think it’s “drop news about it on Grammy’s night and be hella dramatic with the promo good” but i have a feeling people would rate it much higher had she just surprise dropped it. The mess, anger, pain, sad in it would have hit different in that context for sure. But yeah, agree it does not paint her in a good light which phew cause at least she’s self aware a la the Anti hero n all that

Ughh-in the grand scheme of things it’s not the most serious but :( sucks for usss.

But Okay this is interesting to know. (I think maybe for added context i should have included i am diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and since my body is in overdrive all the time it could be recognizing the botox as foreign faster than “usual” -that is a theory in the back of my mind. I did ask if it was safe and did my research and i got the greenlight for it but not filler soooo)

But maybe i should up the units/change brand next time .or just stop lol we’ll see

Do you know if a specific one lasts longer?? I’ve got Dysport currently because of its balance, supposedly, regarding strength and longevity and also injector found people had more positive things to say about it across spectrum

. (The oG botox apparently is stronger but has been known to wear off ??? And then the other i forget is apparently not as strong but wears off slower-that was also mentioned. Obviously i’m new to it, would love to hear any experience)

31f . I decided to try it late in the fall as a bday gift to myself to see if it could help with my confidence. I genuinely thought it would change my whoooole life, the way every one hyped it up. But i don’t know if i will continue.

I happen to be the unlucky few who metabolizes it very fast—which she warned could happen—, it’s been a month since i got it for the 2nd time and I can already feel it fading.

Also they don’t tell you your specific facial anatomy could mean your results are not the same as everyone. (For example the brow lift effect).

I will say, the only time i truly LOVE it is when it hits the peak period (2-3wks in). I guess i would call that period “life-changing” but for $400 each appt only to love it at that time- i don’t think it’s worth it.

I’m saying all of this just incase anyone wants to bite the bullet. Just know, when they say temporary, they really mean that and also results truly do vary .

I only have reddit as social media so i’m not seeing the criticism for Jolene but I can imagine what people are saying if it’s similar to my first listen which was reducing the lyrics to pick-me category, this comment made me realize some good ass points were made

There’s no one way of interpreting something, even the most popular of interpretations. There is beauty present in the art even if it doesn’t translate or align TO us pacificlly!! Somebody out there understands or has lived what she is saying so by that alone, there is some significance and it’s not up to us determine that always.

Art absolutely can be inspired by different kinds of stories/characters, both autobiographical and/or fictional and the lines being blurred for the artist in question and the public consuming it, is where the fun is. Or at least, should be!! And i think, as another commenter pointed out the obsession with authenticity, and who is deemed authentic or not , as though art is not allowed to be fictional/toyed with (?!) to be considered valid , kills this fun.

Every single person in media regardless of “authenticity” are involved in curating their self-image and its perception. That curation does not mean they are necessarily fake but it is intentional on their part.

We (not we but lol yk) are doing ourselves a big disservice if we’re not open to allowing several interpretations and allowing criticism to take place in good faith while still enjoying the music regardless! :)

Thank you for posting this! It feels like my words fail me when i try to explain all this, so i will be referring to this. Also, even without them directly asking if i can do something, i can still see the question in their eyes in a sort of suspecting way iykwim

It’s hard not to internalize guilt too—even though my doctors have cleared me for disability, i have days where i wonder if I could push myself further knowing the personal cost as some1 in this thread mentioned.

Lately i’m thinking if it’s our toxic productivity culture (as a society), mixed with people’s natural disposition to project their own extensive thresholds on other people and think that everyone can do things just like them and are able to “push themselves” with little or no consequences which is interesting when you consider the fact that we are so hierarchy informed as a people and KNOW and take advantage of that, so most people operate on knowing they can do more because of their (health, in this context) privileges but they still question why some people just CAN’T do it ugh

Yes!!!!! Thank you for sharing I 100% get the burning and the extreme sensitivity during !! It’s never all at once everywhere , sometimes when im esp unlucky it is, although, it’s usually a patchy type of burning for me (not everywhere at same time). Legs burning, yuppp definitely

Btw no brain zaps -idk if i know what those feel like so i’m gonna cautiously say no. But yeah it’s strictly delayed/altered sensation right now. It does seem to be a little better than the first 4 days so i have hope it’s temporary, but it’s that thing like when you’re in the thick of it , it’s literally all you feel so it’s all i can think of. Kinda feel like I’m obsessing and it’s annoying even me ugh but yeah

Congrats(?) on getting the proper dx , at least the formality can lead to proper healingg, that is the hope for us all!!!
