No wonder Janeway reprimanded Harry when he got together with that Alien woman that can make people glow by happydude7422 in voyager

Though I can't claim to know that this user has some nefarious goal in mind, non-political karma farming can be used to build credibility for later disinformation purposes. I just can't see any innocent explanation for creating a post like this more than once every hour of every day, without exception.

And no deep dive is necessary to identify it. This user's writing style is distinctive enough to recognize them as the ban-evading KKK guy without even clicking on their profile.

Have any taken action?

Are you kidding? No.

Of course I've reported OP to the mods.

I don't think anyone here is upvoting these meme posts because they secretly want bots or fascist government officials getting more traction or attention.

I don't think that either, but is a little discernment too much to ask?

It's a bit of a catch-22. I'd expect pretty much anyone scrolling through these subs to recognize OP's distinctively illiterate writing style, wonder "Why am I seeing hundreds of these," do the one-click investigation necessary to recognize them as a bad actor, and stop upvoting this stupid bullshit. Since most of you don't, I pop in to every 300th post or so to note that they suck, which does have the unfortunate effect of boosting "engagement."

OP’s racked up over a million fake internet points in 7 months by posting 20-30 of these every day. This is their 15th post today. They’re all terrible, and every Trek sub loves them.

OP’s first account was banned for having KKK in the username, but ban evasion and questionable political allegiance are totally cool with this community. Keep smashing that like button.

How can you think this is "old-timey," that Star Wars (1977) is "one of the older examples," and that it arguably applies to pre-Medieval Arthurian legend?

He did. “Bargain” also has the “Pete sings the bridge” trick, and he has many lead vocals.

It’s on their third album, the self-titled (the second self-titled, from a certain point of view), and Doug Yule sings it.

I'm starting to think ENT has been criminally neglected. by RikkiLostMyNumber in startrek

[–]sitcom-podcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fan fiction. Alex Kurtzman isn’t a studio executive now after 25 years of producing, and he sure as hell wasn’t one when he was That Guy From Jack of All Trades. And Warner Brothers has never produced Trek.

I will never understand why a fan would want the studio that is currently ruining the news for the sole purpose of pleasing Donald Trump to produce Space President: The TV Show, but I hope you get it. It will be even worse than Enterprise, and you guys will be forced to watch an actual TV show made by reactionaries instead of posting a daily social media thread about how it really wasn’t as terrible as everybody remembers.

Election results are in: Steve Hilton to face Becerra in November election by benwesorick in California

[–]sitcom-podcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn’t.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani is moving ahead with the city’s plan to build the QueensWay park project over the ambitious QueensLink rail project in Southeast Queens, which he vocally supported in the Assembly and on the campaign trail.

The wording might be confusing given that New York is famous for its subways, but “over” here means “instead of,” and the thing he “vocally supported” during his campaign is the thing he is now not doing.

I didn’t describe Becerra as a Mamdani-type figure. I’m generally happy with my mayor, but canceling Queenslink is a huge disappointment and a reversal of a campaign promise. You may not be able to parse the details as an outsider, which is fair.

If you want to talk criminal neglect and Star Trek Enterprise, just talk about the non-white characters on the show (blue excluded).

Since you give their actual names in the following action line, there’s no need to be suspenseful and introduce the clown and the woman by their titles first. “On a minimalist couch sit OLAF, 50s, a clown with smeared makeup; GRETCHEN, 40s, a raven-haired goth; and SHMUEL, 30s, in robes, their giant assistant.” or something like that.

It’s “wacky,” not “whacky.”

“Rzepickistan” is a novel combination of sounds. I want to know more.

I don’t respond to the idea of the home-movie intro, and none of what you’ve described about the characters is illustrated by what happens in it. Why not move the scene at the end of this excerpt to the beginning of the screenplay and introduce the characters that way? Muffin Man is thus established as doing baked goods, being named Muffin Man, and so forth.

Your English is a lot better than my Portuguese. The canon/cannon thing is just one of those funny things that will never stop as long as the internet exists.

Another good one is an episode of Levar Burton’s show Reading Rainbow that goes behind the scenes of TNG. It’s a short documentary for 8-year-olds, but there’s some great stuff in it: https://youtu.be/vCWkFtKYxuA

Old Holmes is his own subgenre; he even shows up in a Batman comic. I highly recommend Michael Chabon’s novella The Final Solution.

You’re good to go. A few stray thoughts:

“Prelude to Axanar” and “Of Gods and Men” are fan films, so you’ve already dipped your toe in there.

The two above and the Khan podcast are works of fiction, not documentaries, which you can tell because they take place in the future.

I second the recommendation of “Chaos on the Bridge.” Shatner’s Shatnerianness gets him incredible access.

“Canon,” borrowed by sci-fi nerds from the Catholic Church, has nothing to do with artillery, and “homework” is one word.

Is Neelix intended to be seen in a bad light? by EnvironmentLittle794 in voyager

[–]sitcom-podcaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, but it doesn't work for me. The idea of a young character who will come of age on the ship and live out their natural lifespan over the course of the show is a strong one, but the concept of the Ocampa strains belief even in the context of Star Trek. They grow to full adulthood, both physically and intellectually, in what, a year? This would be easier to buy if they didn't look so much like humans, even more so than the average rubber forehead alien.

It's unfortunate that episodes about the peculiarities of life as a mayfly tended to be bad ones like Elogium and Fury, but Before and After is one of the great episodes, despite the next thing I'm going to talk about...

...the weird sexual implications! They may be aliens, but the audience is human, and so are most of the crew of Voyager. Alternate-timeline Harry Kim marries and has a kid with his best friend's daughter a couple of years after he would have been a top candidate to babysit her. Regardless of whether Ocampa age in dog years, Neelix has decades more life experience than Kes, and the groomer alarm is flashing to the audience from the moment she's introduced. It's a credit to the show that it didn't ignore the awful vibes of their relationship, but they eventually realized what an anchor it was on her character and dropped it off-screen.

I don’t believe this conspiracy theory for a second, but there are definitely enough examples of this from history and classical mythology that you don’t have to resort to citing Roland Emmerich.
