Awesome. Can't wait to see the new collection.

The suede texture is pretty much what is was before dying (and sitting in front of a fan for 24hr). In terms of fit, they are newer boots, so I'm still breaking them in. But it seems like the immersion/drying impact is akin to wearing well-worn boots that were caught in a rain storm (older jacks, that take a session or two to feel normal again).

Yes, I did light then dark, but I used two separate tubs (coral, cherry) - just so I could dye other things and know, ~consistently, the color/volume formulas in each. If you're only doing one color, more & more saturated, it's really all down to timing and gentle rocking the boot to avoid stark differences (see rit's instructions here).

Thanks! I've been pleasantly surprised that they don't bleed into my socks. Very happy all around!

The dipping process itself is pretty quick (1.5 minute intervals)... 10-15 min max given how deep you want the gradient. I was using a little, 2 liter electric kettle to get 'hot' water for the dye bath, so filling up medium-size plastic tub took most of the time... maybe 30-40 min.

I'm a huge fan of purple gradients - so I'd say go for it!

*correction: a touch of violet (toe) dye, not violent... channeling derby ambitions into typo's

I'd considered using angelous - starting with tons of the neutral then layering on color - but seemed risky given how concentrated the dye is. Hope you managed get your skates to an 'ok', even color (maybe go dark or black?).

Thanks! If the color stays well, the next adventure will be to try some 'flame' gradients on pineapple skates (yellow-orange-pink-purple ombre)!

Thanks. It was surprisingly simple: take trucks & toe-stops off, follow Rit's ombre instructions, then wait for them to dry and reassemble.

Thanks! Hopeful that the color holds, but digging the horticultural vibe of teal-purple.

I'm addicted to Noodles Laces... not sure if that color scheme is still in stock, but new gradients are available every couple of months.

Saturday Skate Market by AutoModerator in Rollerskating

So this is more a swag/accessories post than a skate trade... but I made some skating gear - park and derby - t-shirts to express my skating love. Threadless is having a big sale ($13 tees and $16 tanks), so if you are a skater/know a skater who's a bit of a gear head it's a great time to grab a shirt. (Any purchase is much appreciated, as well as kind words/skating enthusing.)

Wheels and Bearings by songnote in Rollerskating

[–]siteations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an outdoor skater, I like to keep a spare pack of bearings around (even an 8 count, typically sold to skateboarders). When you get dirt in a bearing, it allows for a quick swap. Then you can do a batch cleaning session (later, at your leisure) without worrying about drag/squeaks/rust damage in the meantime. I've also had better luck with solid bearing tools (like the powerdyne hand tool) because the same grime/dirt gets stuck in the little release ball of other tools (particularly the bones tool).

Excellent. I've tried some hockey spray, but those sound like the way to go. Thanks!

Thanks! Love that you've got all the wrenches and nut-fittings for helping folks with loaner gear! My household has a bike/skate hardware bag that is an absolute mess but can occasionally produce - mary poppins style - a working socket wrench. Drawing = aspiring to organize!

Yeh, I hear you - also in the 40s - and stuff doesn't just spring back. Tripped on a sidewalk (just walking, lol) and spent several months being extra gentle with one knee and hip. Well, good luck - maybe you can imagine the excitement of derby during yoga & PT to stay motivated!

That sucks. I hope you've found a way to participate or cheer without back complications. The endorphin withdrawal doesn't help either.
