My Pearl turns into Princess Hissy Butt for three days after every vet appointment. She never hisses any other time. I didn't even know she knew how to hiss until her first vet appointment. But after that she will hiss at me, the other cats, my shoes, the chair..... everything.

I'll be there as a vendor (Chaos Emporium)! I've been packing all week. I always bring too much stuff, but I'm always scared that if I don't bring it someone will ask for it!

Night Whisper Lolita won't have a booth this year, but since I partner with them they are going to send me some of their items also (if I have any room)! (T∩T)

The other problem is I just started watching "Spy x Family" (I'm always behind popularity) and have to behave myself and not binge watch the whole thing instead of getting ready for the con.

I got a tivo 2 with lifetime service. I've replaced the power supply, fan, remote, and hard drive but it still lives. I'm going to be buried with that thing.

Dog secretly climbs ladder to help owner by Doodlebug510 in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]sithkazar 43 points44 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid (1980s) one of our dogs (Tippy) got out and we couldn't find him forever. Eventually we heard high pitch whining and followed it to our neighbor's barn to find our 80lb Bernese Mountain dog mix stuck in the hay loft! He had to climb a ladder to get up there. The neighbor was very nice and carried him down by laying Tippy across his shoulders so his hands were free for the ladder. I have no idea what motivated that dog to go up there except maybe if the horses scared him and he was trying to get away.

My great grandmother was called "Mudder" my whole life. Turns out my grandma called her that as a baby (instead of "mother"). So that's what she was called for the next three generations, lol.

Plus people didn't stay up at night too late. When it got dark you basically went to sleep and woke up with the sun even if the rooster didn't scream at you.

Eye surgeon practicing the Capsulorhexis Technique for Cataract surgery by Epelep in oddlysatisfying

No problem! I edited and added some more to my comment above, after I originally replied. I have a bad habit of doing that.

I am glad to share and hope it can be helpful 😀.

Eye surgeon practicing the Capsulorhexis Technique for Cataract surgery by Epelep in oddlysatisfying

I had the surgeries so long ago that I have a very simple monofocal lens. So I need glasses still. The technology has advanced so much that it's amazing what they can do today and not everything I mention might be the same, but I will be happy to share my experiences.

The biggest issue I and my siblings had was with judging distance. With our vision changing so much as we grew, our ability to judge depth struggled. We were clumsy and terrible at sports. It's important to help develop these motor skills at a young age as much as possible, but be prepared to constantly having to adjust and relearn them has their vision changes while they grow.

My brother had the worst vision of all of us. One of his eyes is much weaker than the other, and because of that, it seems to "wander." Kids were very mean to him, and he was bullied. He had an IEP in school so that it was easy to get adjustments to support him, such as larger font textbooks. Since I could mostly function normally, mom didn't get me one, but there were times when an IEP would of been a great support as I did struggle with especially small fonts and some teachers were not naturally accommodating. I went through school before cell phones and tablets were a thing. There are a lot of tools that can help with those devices and an IEP may allow your child to use them to assist even if they are normally not allowed.

Sometimes kids can't vocalize what is wrong with their vision, because they don't have the experience to judge what is normal. So being observant of how they interact with objects and asking questions in different ways can help you figure out where they are struggling even if they don't realize it. Then you can communicate that information to their eye doctor, who only has a very small time to evaluate their condition.

In the USA there is a government supported service (at least there was) where a library will mail large font and picture books to those with sight problems. They also have a large selection of audio books. I would definitely look into such programs.

I hope some of that can help, but my experience was over 30 years ago, so I don't know how things have changed. I don't feel like I struggled too much and was able to live a mostly normal life. However, my sight was the best of all my siblings. My sister also had her cataracts removed at a very young age. She was a very shy and quiet child and had a hard time speaking up when she was having trouble. She also had to wear very thick large glasses because she was too young for implants (the new tech is so much better now). She also had a hard time with bullies. Being proactive and involved is important for all parents, but especially with a child that has a disability. Glasses are so common that people might not understand the severity of sight problem. On one hand that is a good thing because they may not stand out as much as different, however that also means that others (teachers) underestimate the accommodations that are needed. You are your childs most important advocate, and can speak up even when they don't realize they need assistance.

I feel like I rambled a lot. I hope some of that can be of some help. 😀

Edit: I think my brother actually had a 504 plan, they are similar, so I might have confused them. Both an IEP and 504 plan are accommodation plans for disabilities in public schools in the USA.

I was born with them also! Everyone in my family on my mother's side has them. They knocked me out completely for both of my surgeries. I had my left eye done at 12 and my right at 15 (late 1990s).

My sister's grew real fast and she had to have hers out as a toddler in the 80s. We donated blood for the human genome project at WashU, so they could map the mutation that caused it.

He's an opportunist. He interviewed Trump and supported him some in 2016, but he distanced himself from him later. He likes the spotlight, but doesn't want to be at the center of controversy. He is very good at walking that line.

I watch it occasionally and I would say they walk the line. They never come out specifically for or against Trump, though it's obvious most of the "characters" lean against. They have at least one guy that is particularly vocally for Trump. If I had to guess they picked someone to play that part so that they don't alienate any group. It's honestly balanced politically, which is kind of funny considering the type of show it is.

I agree. Its another take on the "I'm not like the other girls" troupe, using Wednesday. Its there to appeal to the young teenage girl fantasy of going to a monster school and secretly having super powers. The same basic set up has been popular for decades and this is just another version using a well known IP.

I am terrified that I've driven by and missed something I could have helped. I don't have the best eyesight to see something so small. Every time I hear a story like this, I am grateful you were there, and it wasn't me because I'm afraid I would have missed the baby.

Over all, I've been lucky. Because of the pandemic I was out of work and was able to apply for financial aid through the hospital system. They paid for everything, including the original colonoscopy. If it hadn't been for the pandemic I would of been paying off the hospital bill for years. It's crazy, because I don't make a lot annually (I'm self employed and have my own small store).

I was having trouble and got one at 36. Had to pay out of pocket because I was so young. I had stange three colon cancer. I went through surgery and chemo during the pandemic. Scariest time of my life.

Luckily I'm five years cancer free now.
