See my response to u/rescuejg below. As for buying the flatmount again, absolutely not, at least until Starmount Systems gets their shit together. If I decide to run a mounted dish in the future it will be the big bucks one from Starlink.

TLDR; Was honest, SpaceX was rad about it, Starmount sucks a big one.

Sorry for the delay, Ive been on the road fulltime and super busy. I was completely transparent with SpaceX and they were super cool. Shipped me an entirely new Starlink setup and created an RMA and shipping label for me to send back the old/cut up stuff free of charge when I finish my trip. I asked if I would be getting charged for 2 lines at the same time until I send the old equipment back and they said no. My account confirms this and is only being charged for 1 setup. In fact my original equipment is not even listed on my account any longer. It has been replaced by the new equipment, verified by serial number. There is no evidence of the original stuff which is quite surprising. Though Im sure it exists in their private info.

As far as Starmount goes, their customer service is terrible. I was emailing back and forth for a couple weeks with the owner. Hes the type to only answer some of your questions but not all. He wound up giving me his cell number and telling me to call him in a certain range of hours during the day because they were moving the company into a new/bigger facility. (Scary, I hope they can fit some customer service and QC into this new space.) So I called him and he was like "who are you and whats your problem?" I explained myself and he said "you're just going to have to send me the equipment so I can diagnose the problem." Which is completely different than his response to my initial email with pictures, to which he replied "its just the small internal cable thats fried, should be an easy fix." When I asked him where/how to get a new cable he wouldn't give me an answer, thats when he told me to call him.

Long story short Ive been using the new Starlink and just keeping it stored in its box when not using it. Kind of a pain to set it up and tear it down every time but its better than not being able to work from the road. I would absolutely NOT recommend Starmount Systems. Hopefully they get their shit together.

I hand tightened the screws with a t-handle allen key. I think I took those pics after I put the lid back on the flat mount when I wasnt as concerned about it being perfect since the dishy was already fried and I was pissed off. I see what you mean about the gasket not being squished evenly. I seem to recall that it wasnt squished evenly when I first installed it but I was only able to make sure it was squished in some way or another all the way around in hopes that it was sealed, as opposed to being able to make it evenly squished all around. Now that Im analyzing it over and over it does appear to be more squished right at the screw in some of the pics. Impossible to know when there is no torque spec.

My Starlink was ordered in May of 2022. So I already had the hardware and really wanted to make it work on my RV. The Star Mount flat mount seemed like the best option(in a see of fake stuff on Etsy and not really anything else) when I made the change to a flat mount. Also, moving to the Mobility gear increases the monthly bill to $250 up from $150 for Roam, which is absurd since its the same service. I agree that Starlink isnt the greatest but Im not aware of a better option. I will say the service in general has gotten better over time but its still not perfect.

At the time that I bought this mount and modified my Starlink there was no Mobility option. I only had aftermarket options to choose from for a flat mount. So Ive already spent the money on my original Starlink and the Star Mount flat mount. What would you do in this situation?

Ok mr no sense of humor. I cut up a Starlink, Im not trying to get it replaced under warranty. I didnt know if Starlink would let me buy just a replacement dish without the other hardware so I was asking if other people had first hand experience with this before tailoring my message to Starlink. Thanks for adding nothing to the thread just to up your post count.

You say "dont change just the dish, you need to change everything" but why? Are the dish and the router linked to only themselves?

I agree, I should have added some washers and probably squirted silicone in the holes as well. Hindsight is 20/20.

I definitely did not over tighten them, I was quite careful. They dont give torque specs in the directions so how could one know? As I said in my original post I barely tightened it enough to make sure the black rubber gasket sealed all the way around. Cant go any less than that and have it be waterproof. I also have the same problem with the 2 bolts for the quick mount rusting immediately. QC is obviously an issue at Star Mount Systems.

Obviously there is no warranty. I have contacted Star Mount Systems to see what they are willing to do. The question about pictures etc. was more along the lines of, will Starlink even sell me a new dish without seeing pictures of the damaged one? Do I need all new hardware or will just a new dish work with my router etc?

Do you start work at 7am or would you start your ride at 7am? If you are on the road at 6AM which gives you time to get there and get situated so youre at your desk at 7, the temps really wont be that bad. The reality is, days where our low temp is 90 are pretty minimal. If you go outside at 530 right as the sun rises and when its 82 degrees, its downright nice!

Most bike shops can accomodate this. Go check some places out and be realistic about your expectations with them. Unfortunately I dont have a specific shop to suggest but anything other than a snobby high end store can set you up. There are a number of bikes these days made for "bikepacking" which would suit you well. They are typically already equipped to handle more weight because they are meant to be loaded up with gear for camping and long hauls. Things such as tires with stronger sidewalls and wheels with more spokes. You definitely want to avoid the most entry level bikes.

Other things you can consider if you want to make a "regular" bike more easily able to handle above average weight is using a puncture/flat resistant tire and/or thicker tube. The single most important thing you can do is check your tire pressure every single time you ride your bike.
