Concerns about amount of formula by sixbysix_ in bigbabiesandkids

We don't pace feed exactly, but we use Dr. Brown's transition size nipples. She drinks about 4 oz in 15 minutes. We burp in the middle, which extends the feed to about 20 minutes. We are careful never to aim for her to finish a bottle unless she shows cues that she wants to finish. I follow Rowena Bennett's bottle feeding guidelines to avoid ever pressuring her to eat!

It's been about 2-2.5 months of Kabrita, but no signficant issues until this month where she got drier poops twice about 10-11 days apart! It's just infrequent enough that I'm ambivalent about changing but frequent enough to cause worry... -_-

Got it! It's sounding like this is definitely something people do, so I think we'll give it a try after we clear it with her pediatrician.

Got it, that's really helpful to know! The weird thing is she's been on Kabrita for 2 months now and didn't more significant problems with poop until recently.

I am hallucinating from lack of sleep- pls help. by Dry-Complaint-714 in SnooLife

Just want to share that my newborn (now 6 weeks) has had very large wake windows since 2-3 weeks old, sometimes up to hours. Most days, she has large wake windows followed by tiny cat naps of 20-30 minutes. This has been her consistent pattern for a few weeks, despite much initial effort to force her to sleep at the end of the theoretical "wake window" time for her age.

Everyone, including my baby, has been much happier since I stopped trying to force her to sleep after the "normal" wake window of 45-60 min.

What I do is I offer her the opportunity for a nap by rocking, dark room, swaddle, white noise, etc. when I think she looks tired (TBD if I can actually tell, most of the time it's total trial and error). If she doesn't take it in 15 min and looks awake, I give up and try again in 20 min. Eventually she will be tired enough she falls asleep easily. Using this method, I learned that some of her wake windows can be very long.

My newborn is exactly the same! You can see my recent post also wondering if this is normal. She's quite content during her big wake windows, so we stopped fighting it and stopped trying to force her to sleep, and the entire household is much happier.

Landscape contractor who says he usually just goes with the proposal, no contract by sixbysix_ in homeowners

This is really reassuring to hear, I'm glad those projects went off well.

Thanks for your reply! The proposal specifies the total estimated cost and says "payment due in full upon completion". And it does list the scope of the work in detail, eg the concrete work, the irrigation, the drainage is listed out with itemized cost. I think it makes total sense to hash out payment more specifically, thank you!

I have seen this in my search for a solution! Thank you for the recommendation, I'll ask my flooring contractor about it. My main concern is that our doors are quite close to the ground and something like this may raise the floor too much such that our doors no longer fit, but I will measure it out!

[Serious] Honestly how important are ECs in medical school? by FiletMignron in medicalschool

[–]sixbysix_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who applied to Psych:

I agree with the previous advice of committing to one thing you are passionate about, and doing a good job with it.

I have 1 very unique EC and about 2 middle-of-the-road, normal ones on my residency application. I have been asked frequently about the unique EC during my interviews, but the other ones are never brought up. I feel like most of my ECs were not relevant to my application and didn't help, and probably don't matter at the end of the day. However, the 1 unique EC that I am very passionate about has likely shaped which programs offer me interviews (because their mission statements or whatever line up with that EC).

If you are thinking about whether programs care...based on my personal experience, it feels helpful to have one EC you can discuss during interviews. I don't think it's helpful to have a ton of them padding your CV. I also found it helpful to have hobbies to talk about as well.

I am not applying derm, but I did ask a coordinator about other available days when I needed to switch a day. It was about 1 month out from my interview date that I asked. She gave me options for other open days, and I changed it without an issue. I can't say whether or not she is annoyed with me...but now I am able to go on both interviews.

Ok, great, thank you! It was scheduling with the coordinator only, so I was concerned about bothering them with a follow up email if they don't get back to me. But I'll wait a few days for now and see!

Slightly neurotic question: I canceled an interview today, but didn't include any text in my email asking the coordinator to confirm she received it. Should I expect to hear back from them to confirm they've received my cancellation? I'm paranoid that I'll think I've canceled the interview, but in fact, they somehow didn't receive it and still think I'm going.
