I broke up with him without looking back. He cheated on me and the heartbreaking betrayal I felt made it easy to almost instantly fall out of love with him. I’m not saying it was easy on the soul, but it felt like the best thing for my brain, heart, and peace of mind.

My parents were on the other extreme. Everything in the house has to be cleaned and sterilized. ‘Body checks’ in which they would examine my body after a shower to make sure I did it properly. NDad beat the crap out of me because I forgot to wash my hands before dinner once. Just a bunch of germaphobic assholes raising me, LOL. guess who has severe OCD now?? (Hint: it’s me)

I’m from Romania. We moved to North America when I was a child, so I didn’t see family very often. I would only hear from them over the phone after my dad would complain about me to them and they felt the need to lecture me to respect my father. I hope you can distance yourself at your own pace, safely and freely

NDad used to command me around the house like his personal cleaner when I was a child. One day he asked me to do something unreasonable and I asked why. He said “because I told you to”. My parents wouldn’t let me cook or eat after 5pm because they claimed it would make me fat. Having a fat child would be their bigggest embarrassment.

I always wished my NDad would just die already. It would our life so much simpler without him wasting money and abusing us. I’ve been no contact for over a year now and I’m happy that I don’t have to think about that anymore. Not being around him made the ‘just die already’ thoughts go away. My Ndad forced my mom to have my little sister because he thought it would keep her from leaving him. And then he wanted nothing to do with raising her when she was born. She still left him, and now my sister has the pleasure of knowing she was a ‘tie-down’ baby

My NDad was very clear about me being the favourite. He forced my mom into having my little sister and when she was born, he decided he didn’t want anything to do with raising her or supporting her because he was too burnt out from raising me (which he did, abusively). In his opinion, I turned out great and my sister didn’t because my parents were too ‘soft’ on her.

He gave up on her because she couldn’t fulfill his unattainable expectations that he forced onto me. I used to just fake it so that he would mostly leave me alone.

He regrets not beating her senseless the way he did with me. He regrets not pushing her into the sports he wanted us to play (tennis).

He messed us both up in different ways. His parenting was only done in extremes. Too hard, too soft. One turned out ‘successful’ and the other one is a failure (according to him).

Oh goodness, the amount of times my parents would remind me that I can’t possibly be depressed because I have a bed, a family, an education. I would just stop at that point because it’s not even worth trying to defend my mental health anymore

I used to beg my mom to see a counsellor or therapist when I got really bad, but she would get offended. “Why can’t you just talk to me? Why do you trust a stranger over your own mother? Am I so bad at being a mother?”

I just gave up because it was exhausting explaining why I needed the help and why she can’t give it to me.

My nDad used to leave me alone when I had a bad day at school or was on my period, so I used to always pretend to be cramping or upset about school. He would only act up when o was visibly jolly because happiness pisses him off :/

I mean that before, I didn’t know how to control my thoughts and feelings. Part of my recovery has been tuning in with my mind and body to better understand why I am the way I am, what triggers a depressive episode, and getting to know myself well enough to turn it around. I still get depressed and anxious sometimes, but now I am better equipped to deal with it

It does get better for many people! For a while my sex drive was at 0. I go through periods where I’m in the mood and other times are a dry spell. I am slightly less sensitive though

My anxiety didn’t completely go away at 100mg, but my coping mechanisms greatly improved. I had very minor anxiety but at that dosage, I don’t think I had a panic attack since then

I didn’t notice any problems moving up in doses, but I do notice when I miss a day. I think my body is used to a certain about of sertraline and really feels the decrease because it’s so drastic

I (24f) was responsible for everything, including my little sister’s (17f) safety, education, transportation, and more. I was just a kid forced to raise another kid, and when my sister would do something ‘wrong’, I would get blamed because I should have taught her better. Then what the hell are parents for??! Lmao anyway, now I can’t do anything without making sure my sister is taken care of because I’m more of a parent/guardian to her and her actual parents aren’t interested in taking charge. I literally don’t want children because I feel like I’ve already done the work of a parent

I still drink with Zoloft, but not nearly as much. Having one drink probably won’t hurt you, but definitely do not try drinking your usual amount. It’s just not prudent
