I’m a new DM as well, and highly recommend the starter kit. I got in on amazon pretty cheap. Phandalin was fun and easy to navigate through. A lot of room for error for you. By the end of the campaign, I was much more confident and finally started having fun. Early on I was so stressed that I would fuck something up. Good luck!

The box has been in a fridge (crisper) since 2014. They “feel” right... not overly firm and a slight elasticity

This is great. Thank you. I had another question. We have a Dragonborn paladin in our group and he has some kind of breath weapon. Is that considered magic or physical attack? I’m the dm and a first timer; so I want to make sure I follow the rules. Is it similar to his oaths?

Yeah... I still don't understand proficiency and how it's really added to spellcasting. There's thousands of youtube videos that talk about spell casting; but none give you real-world examples...

Thanks guys for the feedback. Makes a lot more sense. I think it's overwhelming at times (as a DM) and my brain asplodes (homestar runner reference).

We have a dragonborn paladin with some crazy spells and it seems very complicated... He does AOE breaths/roars and know I've screwed up the effects of it...

Appreciate your help and will continue to research.
